Employer: Somali Animal Health Services Project (SAHSP) EC Funded Project, Implemented by Terra Nuova in partnetship with UNA, COOPI, VSF-Germany and FAO

Location: Somalia (Garowe, Puntland (50%) & Hargeisa, Somaliland (50%)

Skills and Qualifications Required

  • Applicants must be Somali Nationals
  • Must have a degree in Veterinary Medicine from a recognised University with additional training or proven experience in epidemiological investigations and disease reporting, public and private sector partnerships in animal health services delivery, institutional support and policy development. Post-graduate qualifications in a relevant discipline will be an added advantage.
  • Skills in project management with working experience in pastoral livestock production systems.
  • A good knowledge of the diagnosis, management and control of key transboundary diseases of livestock namely, Rinderpest, peste des petits ruminants (PPR), Rift Valley Fever (RVF), Contagious Bovine Pleuro-Pneumonia (CBPP), Contagious Caprine Pleuro-Pneumonia (CCPP) and Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD)..
  • Demonstrable skills in public relations and ability to work with pastoral communities, local authorities, public and private sector service providers and other key livestock sector stakeholders in Somalia.
  • Ability to work with all communities throughout the assigned Zone (Puntland and Somaliland)
  • Ability to anticipate, prevent and resolve conflicts between different livestock sector stakeholders that may impact negatively on implementation of SAHSP II field activities.
  • Demonstrable capability in planning, organizing and coordinating the implementation of activities including workshops and training sessions with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Good oral and written communication skills with ability to brief and debrief SAHSP II staff and stakeholders in the Somali and English languages and to write technical and administrative progress reports in English.
  • Good team building and leadership skills.
  • Project implementation experience; minimum five years experience in the International NGOs sector and with good knowledge of and ability to productively engage local authorities.
  • Willingness to travel to all areas of Somalia where the project is implemented on a regular basis.
  • Ability to manage an office and its human resources.
