PAIE Scholars Program for AI Evaluation Researchers

PAIE Scholars Program for AI Evaluation ResearchersThe PAIE Scholars Program supports researchers based in low‑ and middle‑income countries (LMICs) in Asia and Africa to develop and lead rigorous, policy‑relevant evaluations of innovative applications of AI for social good and in the fight against poverty.

Selected scholars will receive training in randomized evaluation and the evaluation of AI‑enabled interventions, along with an award of USD $1,000, conditional on successfully completing the training and meeting program requirements.

Application Timeline

  • September 17, 2026 – Applications open.

  • October 16, 2026 (12:00 PM ET) – Application deadline.

  • November 2026 – January 2027 – Training program (approx. 3 months).

  • December 2026 – Notifications sent to applicants.

    Application Requirements

    Applicants must submit:

  • CV.

  • One to three examples of research.

  • Brief statements describing research experience, randomized evaluation experience, interest in AI‑enabled interventions, and interest in the program.

  • Working concept note describing the research idea, including how it could lead to a randomized evaluation.

    Eligibility Criteria

  • Resident scholars based in LMICs in Asia and Africa (per World Bank list).

  • PhD in economics or relevant empirical discipline.

  • Advanced training in quantitative methods (statistics, econometrics, causal inference, experimental methods, machine learning).

  • Interest in evaluating AI‑enabled interventions affecting social or economic outcomes.

  • English proficiency sufficient for coursework, training, and outputs.

  • Commitment to complete all program components (4–10 hours per week during training).

    Program Benefits

  • USD $1,000 award upon successful completion of training.

  • Training in randomized evaluation and AI‑enabled intervention evaluation.

  • Mentorship and proposal‑development support.

  • Travel support for selected scholars developing full pilot proposals.

  • Opportunity to compete for pilot funding following proposal review.
