Adina Talve-Goodman Fellowship for Early-Career Fiction Writers;The Adina Talve‑Goodman Fellowship honors the memory of author and former One Story Managing Editor Adina Talve‑Goodman. This year‑long mentorship supports early‑career fiction writers whose work speaks to issues and experiences related to inhabiting bodies of difference. The fellowship offers guidance, resources, and opportunities to help writers outside the fold gain a significant boost in their careers.

Fellow Receives

Access to One Story online classes

Admission to One Story’s Writing Circle

Stipend of $2,000

Free admission to One Story’s week‑long summer writers’ conference (craft lectures, intensive fiction workshop, panels with agents and publishers)

Full manuscript review and consultation with Executive Editor Hannah Tinti (story collection or novel in progress up to 150 pages/35,000 words)

Eligibility & Requirements

Early‑career fiction writer who has not yet published a book

Not currently, nor ever, enrolled in an advanced degree program (MA/MFA in Creative Writing, English, or Literature) and no plans to attend one in 2027

Work must center, celebrate, or reclaim marginalized experiences (race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, age, class, religion, illness, disability, trauma, migration, displacement, dispossession, imprisonment)

Applicants must be at least 21 years old as of 1 January 2027

Application Checklist

Fiction writing sample (3,000–5,000 words) – multiple short stories permitted if combined under 5,000 words in one file

Personal statement (400–750 words)

Statement of purpose (200–350 words)

Two professional or personal references (name, email, phone – no letters required)

Current resume including work/educational experience, writing classes, awards, fellowships, publications, residencies (if any)
