Shaping the Future of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights

Shaping the Future of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights;Sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) are being reshaped by geopolitical, socioeconomic, environmental and technological changes at unprecedented speed. These shifts affect how SRHR is experienced, financed, supported, advanced or eroded worldwide.

HRP, together with UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF, WHO and the World Bank, is leading a global foresight and research prioritization process for 2026–2036. This open public consultation seeks diverse input to identify potential influences that may shape SRHR over the next decade. The process will culminate in a published report and research agenda in 2027.

What is Foresight?

Foresight methods help governments, UN bodies and NGOs explore plausible futures by identifying signals of change, analyzing trends and preparing for possible outcomes. Instead of predicting the future, foresight asks what the world might look like in 10 years and how we can better prepare.

Guiding Questions

What future trends will shape or constrain SRHR over the next 10 years?

What evidence and research investments are needed today to prepare SRHR for the futures we may face?

Signals of Change

Stakeholders are invited to submit signals — emerging or potential signs of change — that may influence SRHR. Signals can be small or large, well‑established or newly emerging, and may sit outside the health sector.

Examples include:

Economic systems: taxation, labour markets, trade policies, financial systems.

Social infrastructure: universal social protection and public services.

Structural discrimination: racism, gender inequality, class privilege.

Conflict, forced migration and displacement.

Mega‑trends: demographic shifts, climate change, digital transformation, AI, energy transition, urbanization.

Conditions of daily life: education, nutrition, housing, transport, care burdens.

Rights, legal and governance systems.

Health systems: financing, workforce, service delivery, health data.

Media, communication, misinformation and disinformation.

Research ecosystem: funding, ethics, evidence translation, trust in science.

Who Can Participate

Open to individuals, organizations and groups whose experience or expertise can provide insights on the future of

SRHR. HRP especially welcomes input from:

Health workers, professional associations and clinical networks.

Civil society, community groups, youth‑led organizations and rights movements.

Governments, parliamentarians, regulators and public sector bodies.

Researchers, academia, think tanks and technical experts.

UN agencies, multilateral, humanitarian and development organizations.

Funders, philanthropy, private sector, technology and innovation organizations.

Media, communications and journalism.

Anyone with lived experience or perspectives relevant to SRHR futures.

Submission Process

Complete the short online submission form (available in English, Arabic, Chinese, French, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish).

Share signals along with supporting resources, reports, links or examples.

Formal published evidence is welcome but not required; practice‑based experience and early observations are also encouraged.

Submissions will be anonymized and used strictly for the foresight and research prioritization process.
