Equality Fund Journalism Fellowship for Journalists Worldwide;The Equality Fund Journalism Fellowship seeks to surface stories of local solutions to global crises, with a focus on gender. The fellowship will select 5 journalists from ODA‑eligible countries to report fact‑based stories that inspire decision‑makers and elevate women’s leadership in addressing global challenges.

Objective

At least one story published per fellow, reporting on local solutions to global crises with a gender focus.

Crises may include climate change, gender‑based violence, authoritarianism, anti‑rights movements, rollback of sexual and reproductive rights, economic injustice, war and conflict.

Selection Criteria

Open to women, men and LGBTQI+ journalists.

Working journalists in any platform (text, digital, video, audio) in ODA‑recipient countries.

Shortlisted applicants must submit a letter of editorial commitment (or fact‑checking plan for self‑publishing).

Use of AI in proposals is not permitted; AI use in reporting must be disclosed and approved.

Equality Fund is launching its inaugural Global Journalism Fellowship. Journalists in ODA‑recipient countries are invited to apply now through November 8, 2026 at 11:00 PM EST.

Eligibility Requirements

Minimum of three years of journalism experience.

Must be located in, and reporting on, communities in ODA‑recipient countries.

Provide three strong journalism samples showcasing relevant work.

Ability to accommodate meetings during daytime hours in Eastern Standard Time.

Fluent in English (Equality Fund’s working language).

Strong affinity for Equality Fund’s mission and values of equality and diversity across race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, national origin and disability.

Women, non‑binary and trans people encouraged to apply.

Must hold a bank account able to accept international electronic wire transfers.

Additional Details

Fellows will have complete editorial independence.

Fellows should follow trauma‑informed reporting best practices and conduct community roundtables where possible.

Fellows retain intellectual property rights; Equality Fund retains rights to publish/reproduce work to promote the fellowship.

Freelance

fellows paid by publishing outlets may retain publication fees in addition to fellowship stipend.

Full‑time staff fellows must notify their newsroom of the fellowship stipend.
