Planet Forward Storyfest Awards


Planet Forward Storyfest Awards;The Planet Forward Storyfest Awards highlight student voices exploring solutions to sustain our changing planet. Storyfest seeks compelling, thought‑provoking, and inspiring stories that motivate action and drive change. Students from all academic backgrounds are encouraged to participate.

Award Categories

  • Best Short Video – 1–8 minutes, HD quality, horizontal (16:9), with a 50–200 word article description. Longer documentaries must include a trailer within the time limit.

  • Best Social Video – 1–2 minutes, HD quality, vertical (9:16), with a 50–200 word article description.

  • Best Written Story – 600–1,000 words, at least one image, and primary source material (e.g., interviews, reports, surveys).

  • Best Multimedia Story – Combination of visual/audio elements (photography, illustrations, text, audio, music).
    • Photography submissions: 150 dpi minimum, captions ≤200 words, accompanied by a 200–400 word article.
    • Photo essays: 8–10 photos recommended.
    • Adobe Express or similar: embed code, 100–200 word summary, and one photo.

    Special Awards

  • Framing the Future Award – Selected by University staff for originality, depth of research, compelling data use, and engaging format.

  • Fan Favorite Award – Selected by public vote and Planet Forward Summit attendees (voting closes 7 April 2027 at 5:00 PM EST).

  • Food – Feeding the planet, reducing waste, improving production

  • Water – Conservation, access, cleaning, distribution

  • Energy – Cleaner sources, efficiency, innovation

  • Mobility – Transportation solutions, congestion reduction, climate impact

  • Built Environment – Future‑ready materials, technologies, designs

  • Biodiversity – Preserving ecosystems

  • Public Health – Lessons from the pandemic, climate‑health connections

  • Climate Justice – Fair and inclusive climate policies and initiatives
