The call for nominations for the OPEC Award for Journalism is now open!

Journalists, analysts and media organizations from around the world are invited to nominate outstanding individual candidates, media organizations or teams for this prestigious Award, which will be presented at the 10th OPEC International Seminar in Vienna, Austria, on 7 – 8 July 2027.

Objective of the Award

The OPEC Award for Journalism honours journalists, analysts and news organizations that have devoted their careers and time to objective, balanced reporting on, and analysis of the oil market.

Such work will have contributed to a greater understanding of the workings of the global oil market over a significant period of time.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Be a print, broadcast or digital journalist, or an analyst.

Have at least ten years of experience reporting on and/or analyzing the oil and energy industry.

Be based anywhere in the world. Journalists and analysts from OPEC Member Countries are particularly welcome to apply.

Work to be submitted in English.

Nomination Requirements

A completed nomination form.

Five samples of work previously published or broadcast that demonstrate the nominee's reporting and/or analysis during the required timeframe.

All nomination materials must be received by 28 November 2026. Self-nominations and third-party nominations are both accepted.

Winner

All entries will be judged by a panel of academics, journalists and oil industry experts. The winner will receive a plaque and a monetary award of €10,000, which will be donated on his/her behalf to the institution or charity of his/her choice.
