Position Title: Humanitarian Policy Advisor - Darfur
Report to: Sudan Strategy Programme Coordinator

Budget responsibility: None but will be required to complete quarterly narrative reports
Based: Khartoum, Sudan
Contract: Open Ended
Salary: £23,878 gross (negotiable, dependant on experience)

- University education in political science, international law, international development, communications or any equivalent qualification - Experience in emergency and development work with a demonstrated understanding of context, dilemmas, challenges and ways of working; with a track record in advocacy - Experience in dealing with and influencing governments, donors, and other organizations, especially United Nations bodies and /or the African Union, through representation and/or advocacy - Analytical, with an ability to crystallise issues in complex situations - Ability to think strategically and beyond the local/country context - Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with fluency in written and spoken English - Thorough understanding of and active commitment to promoting gender equity issues and interests of marginalized people in all advocacy related work - Sensitivity to cultural differences - Excellent teamwork skills and ability to build good relations internally and externally - Ability to work independently when necessary and at times with minimal supervisor - Willingness to travel at short notice and living in difficult circumstances sometimes subject to travel restrictions and insecurity.
- Experience of protection programmes and working with peacekeeping missions. - Arabic language skills.
