The African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), is an international organization sponsored by the African Development Bank (AfDB), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Bank (IBRD) as well as a number of African and non-African Governments.

ACBF is currently seeking applications from suitable candidates fo the following positions.

The incumbents, who must be citizens of sub-Saharan African countries, will be responsible for carrying out basic functions relating to the development, implementation and monitoring of capacity-building programmes/projects.

They will also contribute to the Foundation's growing knowledge management activities.

1.Program Officers

  • Advanced degree (M.A, MSc, or PhD) in the social sciences from a recognized university and related professional experience of at least 7 years, preferably in an international environment;
  • Solid knowledge of, and professional competence in, at least one of the following areas: the role of private sector and civil society in participatory development; and gender management and analysis;
  • Demonstrated research skills and capacity to play an effective role in the generation and sharing of knowledge for capacity building;
  • Superior oral, written and electronic communication skills ideally in both English and French (or at least strong command of one language and good operational knowledge of the other). Knowledge of Portuguese will constitute an advantage;
  • Computer literacy and competency in widely used office software;
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision as well as possession of a teamwork orientation
  • Capacity to interact harmoniously and effectively with staff and stakeholders from diverse disciplines, perspectives, countries and cultures;
  • Proven ability to engage and build consensus with diverse African and non-African stakeholders in the development community.

    2. Assistant Accounting Officer

  • An MBA degree or equivalent from a recognized institution plus a professional Accounting qualification and related professional experience of at least 5 years, preferably in an international environment;
  • Ability to reconcile on a monthly basis, general ledger accounts pertaining to advances, loans and other receivables;
  • Competence in analysis and reconciliation of suspense accounts, control accounts and creditors balances;
  • Excellent oral, written and electronic communication skills ideally in English and French (or at least strong command of one language and good knowledge of the other). Knowledge of Portuguese will constitute an advantage;
  • Computer literacy and competency in widely used office software. Knowledge of the Sun Accounting package will constitute an advantage;
  • Ability to work independently as well as possession of a teamwork orientation and capacity to interact harmoniously and effectively with colleagues from diverse disciplines, perspectives, countries and cultures.
