This position will be based in Kisumu, Kenya within EngenderHealth’s Provincial Office.
The Senior Technical Advisor, Male Circumcision provides technical leadership and guidance on EngenderHealth’s male circumcision programming in Kenya.
In addition, he or she will provide technical guidance and support to EngenderHealth’s country programs and global programs on all clinical issues pertaining to male circumcision.
He or she will work closely with other technical advisors, Project Directors, and the Global Director, HIV/STI to identify, document, disseminate, adapt, and replicate clinical best practices in male circumcision and take them to scale.
He or she will identify, develop and disseminate the latest clinical guidelines and standards, and will conduct regular technical training and updates on male circumcision for EngenderHealth staff and country counterparts as required.
He or she will also work with the Global Director, M,E&R to guide M&E, research, and use of data related to male circumcision services.
Provide technical leadership and guidance on developing and implementing programs that provide male circumcision as part of a comprehensive HIV package.
Provide expert clinical advice regarding the surgical procedure and approaches, techniques, and new technologies for making the procedure more cost-effective.
Conduct regular medical monitoring visits of EngenderHealth male circumcision projects and advise on quality improvement approaches.
Coordinate EngenderHealth male circumcision activities to avoid duplication between projects and create synergy for effective implementation.
Identify, with country counterparts, lessons learned and potential best practices related to male circumcision and document and disseminate these practices, including developing strategies to replicate them in-country and to adapt and replicate them in other countries.
Identify priorities for assessments, research, and evaluations related to male circumcision and work with EngenderHealth staff to implement them through technical assistance for country counterparts.
Work with EngenderHealth staff and country counterparts to develop/adapt strategies and clinical guidelines for male circumcision to support strong health systems in providing quality male circumcision services integrated with other HIV and RH services such as HIV counseling and testing, STI diagnosis and treatment, family planning, etc.
Provide guidance on relevant training and quality improvement approaches, develop appropriate training curricula and quality improvement tools, as needed and train surgical teams on clinical aspects of male circumcision.
Provide high-level representation for EngenderHealth with USAID, other donors, and other external audiences regarding these technical areas.
Keep abreast of groundbreaking work in relevant clinical areas, disseminate new knowledge to EngenderHealth staff, and develop and provide training and TA for staff, programs, and partners.
Travel up to 30% of the time for field-based TA and/or global leadership activities.
Other duties as assigned by the Director, HIV/STI.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS:
Medical degree and postgraduate medical qualifications in sexual reproductive health, HIV care and/or infectious diseases.
At least 2 years specialist experience in providing male circumcision services.
Specialist medical training and clinical experience in the following areas: male circumcision, VCT, STI management, infection prevention (universal precautions), and quality improvement.
Writing and communication skills.
Experience in providing field-based TA in area of expertise.
Fluency in English at the S5/R5 level required; fluency in other relevant African language(s) preferred.
