Rural Advisory Services and Extension Specialist, FAO, Khartoum & Juba

Duty Station: Khartoum and Juba, the Sudan with frequent regional travel

Duration: 2 years (renewable for further 2 years)

Minimum Requirements

Candidates should meet the following:

  • Advanced university degree in agriculture, agricultural economics, rural development or related field

  • Seven years relevant experience in rural development projects including strengthening institutions, and particularly in the establishment of rural advisory service providers, and experience in Africa

  • Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of Arabic or one of the other languages of the Organization

    Selection Criteria

    Candidates will be assessed against the following:

  • Extent of relevant knowledge and experience in the establishment of rural advisory services and capacity building of state and locality-based services in charge of agricultural extension in developing countries

  • Depth of knowledge and experience in technological approaches to different agro-ecological and socio-economic contexts, e.g. farmer field schools, community animal health workers, water users associations, community-based agro-processing producer marketing groups, and natural resource management

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, implement and report on work

  • Demonstrated ability to liaise with UN agencies, NGOs and government ministries

  • Extent of experience in Africa

  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills in English
