PhD Studentship in Cellular Immunology of Parastic Infections

Leiden University Medical Centre, Netherlands.

As a PhD student within the Department of Parasitology, you will form part of the section `Cellular Immunology of Parasitic Infections’ investigating the details of interaction between human hosts and parasites.

The project has strong international links and will be carrying out population studies in Indonesia, Gabon and Ghana.

These studies will be combined with laboratory-based studies in Leiden, including in vitro cell culture studies and in vivo animal models.

You will present the results of your work in a PhD thesis 48 months after appointment.

Requirements

University Graduate.

You are a biomedical scientist, biologist, medical biologist or medical doctor with experience in immunology, cellular culture work, and flow cytometry.

An ability to work independently is required as is an affinity for field work.

In addition, you should have initiative and be enthusiastic in your work. Flexibility and good communication skills are also essential.

Organization

At the Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC), we are continually seeking to improve the quality of healthcare.

The LUMC aims for excellence in patient care, research, teaching, training and continuing education.

You will work within the Cellular Immunology of Parasitic Infections Section of the Department of Parasitology.

The Department is part of the Centre for Infectious Diseases and has state-of-the-art apparatus for conducting cellular and molecular work, including facilities for proteomics and glycomics.

Conditions of employment

Maximum hours per week: 38

Additional conditions of employment:

Appointment is for a maximum of four years.

The starting salary is € 1,933 gross per month in the first year, increasing to a maximum of € 2,407 gross per month in the fourth year (doctoral student scale of the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch universities/University Hospitals).
