The analyst will carry out advocacy and research and produce reports on security, conflict, political, governance, human rights and social issues related to the Horn of Africa region.

The successful candidate will work with other members of the Africa Program team to carry out advocacy and research and produce reports on security, conflict, political, governance, human rights and social issues related to the Horn of Africa region with particular emphasis on Chad and Sudan.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducting extensive field research into prevailing security, social and political conditions in Chad and Sudan.

  • Providing analysis and advice on key conflict prevention and resolution issues in Chad and Sudan.

  • Proposing policy initiatives for relevant government and non-governmental actors to address the underlying issues that feed grievances.

  • Preparing detailed reports and briefing papers based on research findings and including policy recommendations.

    Requirements:

  • In depth knowledge of governance issues and conflict on Chad and the Darfur provinces of Sudan.
  • Extensive contacts in Chad and the Darfur region of Sudan with governmental and non-governmental officials, media, and academia.

  • At least five years of professional experience in conflict analysis, journalism, NGO, INGO, or government work related to Chad and Sudan.

  • Excellent demonstrated writing and analytical skills, and ability to summarise large amounts of written material.

  • Fluency in English and French. Arabic would be an asset. Masters degree in International Relations, Political Science, Journalism, Sociology or equivalent professional experience.
