Field System Administrator, Mercy Corps - Kenya

Knowledge and Experience:
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Three years experience implementing and supporting Internet-based technologies, including routers, firewalls, satellite terminals, ISP communication devices, and Internet server appliances.
Experience supporting Linux and Windows servers and Windows desktops.
Experience maintaining servers for standard Internet services such as DNS, NFS, DHCP, Samba, mail, web, and FTP.
Previous programming, scripting, and database experience with PHP and MySQL desirable.
PC repair including board swap, memory additions, peripheral devices and software installs and upgrades.
Knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP) and mail protocols (SMTP, SENDMAIL, POP, and IMAP).
Windows operating systems, Office, web browsers, and e-mail clients. HF and VHF radios. Satellite phones.
Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of staff.
Experience writing technical documentation.
Ability and motivation to learn new technologies quickly and with minimal support and guidance.
Ability to work productively in teams; friendly and approachable; dependable.
Strong organizational and administrative skills. Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members is required.
Effective time-management and task-management skills to accomplish multiple competing priorities.
Tolerance of ambiguity.
Knowledge of current hardware and software packages in Windows operating system.
Proficiency with Internet applications, especially web browsers and e-mail clients.
Practical problem solving skills and solid trouble shooting skills.
Ability to learn network management; and ability to learn new technology and keep abreast of the latest technological advances.
