Essential Criteria
Bachelor's degree in social sciences, political science and international relations or related field
Understanding of key policy debates around water and sanitation at an international level, and preferably of the current policy environment in Ethiopia.
Demonstrated experience in the area of policy and advocacy preferably in NGOs
Ability in doing policy and advocacy work in a politically sensitive environment
Knowledge of basic research tools and methodologies
Experience in capacity building of staff and partners to undertake and implement effective advocacy
Ability to analyse information, evaluate options and to think and plan strategically
Demonstrated experience of managing and developing a team and the ability to lead and motivate others
Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and oral English and Amharic), and presentation skills
Proven senior level representation, diplomacy and networking abilities
Decisive, solution-oriented, and a creative thinker
Proven negotiation, conflict resolution, and influencing abilities
Able to plan, prioritize and organize self and others
Ability to manage a complex and demanding workload
Excellent IT skills, especially programming & statistical software (such as SPSS), and MS Office applications
Firm belief in gender equality and sensitivity to HIV/AIDS
Commitment to values and working styles of WAE
Desirable Criteria
Masters degree in social sciences, political science and international relations or related fields
An in-depth understanding of national and international development issues in particular in relation to water and sanitation
Competence in developing and managing budgets
Experience of tailoring advocacy messages for a variety of decision-makers and high level audiences
Knowledge and experience of donor policy and processes
