Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited university in Business Administration, International Relations, Public Administration or Economic Development or a similar subject discipline is required. Graduate degree is preferred.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, office administration, leadership techniques and the coordination of people and resources.
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations, and negotiation.
  • Knowledge of logistics to include purchasing, transportation, and warehousing.
  • Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedure precedents, government relations, etc.
  • Knowledge of grant management and administration.
  • 3- 5 years of previous international work experience in a complex humanitarian crisis, 2 of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
  • Competence in the use of MS Office.
  • Ability to manage budgets and financial accountability procedures.
  • Strong capacity building and facilitation skills, accompanied with cross-cultural sensitivity.
  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written).
  • Demonstrated report writing skills.
  • Ability to work in, and contribute to, a team context.
  • Ability to maintain performance expectations in diverse cultural context, a psychologically stressful environment, and physical hardship conditions with limited resources.
  • Ability to prepare and manage administrative records and reports as required by partner agencies and grantors.
  • Previous leadership experience and strong interpersonal skills;
  • Good negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Foreign language ability; Arabic preferred.
  • Previous experience in a Muslim environment, preferred.

  • This is a field-based position and will require exposure to high temperatures, bright sun, wind and conditions normally associated with arid environments.
  • The security risk for this location can vary from moderate to high.
  • Movement to and from field operations consists of air, helicopter, and land transport.

    Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • This position is based in Darfur, Sudan with Geneina and Khartoum as the principle center of operations. Travel to and from Khartoum to Geneina will be required periodically.
  • Operating in sensitive and potentially volatile areas, security restrictions are enforced.
  • Staff typically work 6 days of the week.

    Working hours will be structured in light of the prevailing emergency situation being addressed, and may be unsociable at times.
