Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) is seeking two volunteers for long-term (two year) volunteer opportunities with our partner organizations in Cameroon.

Opportunities Available

1) Communications Advisor

The communications advisor will support the project team in documenting the whole APRICOM experience as a model to be shared through appropriate networking.

Key Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Support staff in producing brochures and other communications materials including writings on the success stories of the project
  • support staff in documenting workshop and community home-based care experiences
  • Advise on all APRICOM activities in conjunction with another VSO volunteer working with the project
  • Assist with project propsals and communicating with donor agencies

    Skills Needed:

  • An undergraduate degree in Journalism, Communications and/or social work
  • At least 2 years experience in writing for publications, preferably in the area of health, social work, or HIV and AIDS
  • Fluency in written and spoken French, and a working knowledge of English.
  • Able to work under time constraints and to network and work cross-culturally

    2) Volunteer Development Advisor

    The volunteer development advisor will support APRICOM volunteers in organizational development that ensures the sustainability of the project.

    Key Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Strengthen the capacity of small community groups to support and motivate local volunteers in the area of home based care
  • Advise on planning a long-term strategy for national volunteering in home based care and for VSO Cameroon.
  • Facilitate development of monitoring and evaluation training materials for the project field teams and the home based care volunteers

    Skills Needed:

  • An undergraduate degree in community development, social science or similiar
  • a minimum of two years experience in volunteer management
  • community development experience, preferably in supporting small or rural community groups
  • Project management experience, preferably in areas such as HIV & AIDS or health service provision
  • Knowledge and experience in fundraising would be an asset
  • A working knowledge of French, fluency would be an asset as the volunteer will be working in French-speaking regions of Cameroon.
  • Wilingness to learn and use the local language, Fulfulde.
