Call for Proposals: Sport, Inclusion and Francophonie 2027

About the Award

  • The Mwangaza Award is an annual recognition established by the Khaki Foundation to celebrate nonprofit organizations delivering exceptional, sustained, and transformational impact in Tanzania.

  • The inaugural 2026 award focuses on Early Childhood Education (ECE) and recognizes organizations that have already demonstrated measurable and meaningful results.

  • The award is designed to recognize proven impact rather than future project proposals.

  • “Mwangaza,” meaning light or illumination in Swahili, reflects the award’s mission of highlighting organizations that bring hope, opportunity, dignity, and positive change to communities.

    Award Categories

  • One award for an organization serving Pwani Region.

  • One award for an organization serving Pemba North.

  • Each selected organization will receive TZS 50,000,000 to further strengthen and expand its early childhood education work.

    Eligibility Criteria

    Applicant organizations must:

  • Be a legally registered nonprofit organization or NGO in Tanzania.

  • Be authorized and currently operating.

  • Deliver Early Childhood Education services in Pwani Region or Pemba North.

  • Have completed or substantially implemented at least one ECE intervention with documented positive outcomes.

  • Have an active governing board.

  • Hold a bank account in the organization's legal name.

  • Be willing to undergo document verification, reference checks, financial due diligence, and site visits where necessary.

  • Submit a separate application for each region if applying for multiple locations.

What the Selection Committee Is Looking For

    Strong applicants should demonstrate:

  • Measurable Impact – credible evidence that activities have improved outcomes for children, families, educators, or communities.

  • Sustained Results – achievements maintained over time rather than one-off successes.

  • Innovation – effective, practical, and creative solutions to ECE challenges.

  • Equity and Inclusion – meaningful support to underserved children and marginalized communities.

  • Community Engagement – involvement of families, teachers, local leaders, and stakeholders.

  • Sustainability – ability to maintain and build
    on achieved results.
