LSHTM has a vacancy for a research fellow in epidemiology, demography or social science to join a multi-disciplinary study working to improve newborn survival in southern Tanzania.
The person will be physically based at the Ifakara Health Research and Development Centre in either Dar es Salaam or Mtwara, in Tanzania, where they will be responsible for day to day management and co-ordination of the study and mentoring of Tanzanian scientific staff.
The appointment will be until 31 December, and will be made on the School's Non-clinical Research Fellow scale, with an initial salary in the range £32,542 - £36,975 depending on qualifications and experience.
Requirements:Hold a doctoral degree from a social science or demography/epidemiology background, with skills in the complementary discipline
Have at least 2 years of health systems research experience in an African setting
Experience of postgraduate teaching or mentoring research students
Excellent written and oral communication skills, and have experience of working independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary research team
Knowledge of Swahili and experience in east Africa would be an advantage, as would a Master's degree in Public Health or a related area, and peer-reviewed publications.
