Education Volunteer, Visions in Action, Northern Uganda

VIA seeks a skilled international volunteer to serve this project for a period of 6 to 9 months.

The volunteer should have formal training as a teacher and be willing to live and work in Gulu, a large town 330 kilometers north of the capital, Kampala.

The job is located in: Uganda

The volunteer should expect to develop specific job responsibilities with project staff according to their area of expertise.


  • At least one year of experience in classroom teaching; must have a teaching credential. Primary school teaching experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of teaching methodology in an African development context.

  • Experience supervising and/or training others preferred.

  • University degree required.

  • Fluent in English; excellent communication skills required.

  • Willingness to work in a difficult and insecure environment.


    This is a supported volunteer position for a limited term of 6-9 months, beginning in May 2007.

    VIA will provide volunteers with shared housing, basic health coverage, and a modest monthly stipend, arrange for a work permit and transportation to the work site.

    Volunteers are responsible for the cost of their airfare, entry visa, and pre-departure health costs.
