Agricultural Officer, FAO, Nairobi

Location: Nairobi, with frequent travel to Somalia Grade Level P-3

Duration: 12 months

Organizational Unit Special Emergency Programmes Service (TCES) Emergency Operations and Rehabilitation Division (TCE) Technical Cooperation Department (TC)

Minimum Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in agriculture, agronomy or related subject
  • Five years of relevant experience in the planning and implementation of agricultural projects and programmes including field work in developing countries related to emergency and rehabilitation in agriculture and seed production
  • Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of one of the other FAO languages

    Selection Criteria

    Candidates will be assessed against the following:

  • Extent of experience with agriculture projects in a broad range of technical areas including agriculture and seed production and seed security
  • Knowledge of rural livelihoods in developing countries
  • Demonstrated capacity and skills in managing projects and programmes
  • Extent of experience in East Africa, particularly in Somalia, and/or in a complex emergency
  • Communication, written and presentation skills in English
  • Extent of experience in working with governmental services, NGOs and other UN agencies is an asset
  • Please note that all candidates should possess computer/word processing skills and should be capable of working with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
  • The length of appointment for internal FAO candidates will be established in accordance with applicable policies pertaining to the extension of appointments.
