Head of Office

Location: Jijiga, Ethiopia.

Mercy Corps is working in Ethiopia in close collaboration with the government; other INGOs and UN agencies to provide emergency assistance to the vulnerable populations diversify livelihoods and increase the capacity of good governance through improved mechanism for conflict prevention/resolution in the Somali Region and East Hararghe of Ethiopia.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • A BA/S or equivalent in relevant field; MA/S preferred.

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ NGO experience successfully managing multi-sectoral programs in the field, preferably in the Horn of Africa.
  • Must be able to strategically advise staff on program and office activities and security issues.

  • Must have thorough understanding of office administration systems and ensure they are upheld.

  • Experience training and supervising national staff.

  • Ability to effectively represent the organization and its interests to a diverse range of local and international government officials, local civil society organizations, other international organizations and the public.

  • Experience in the following domains are critical: Agriculture/pastoral livelihoods, preferably in Africa.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with the MS Office software (i.e., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.

  • Fluent in English.

    Success Factors:

  • Proven experience working effectively and respectfully with host country government and NGO.

  • Effective verbal and written communication, multi-tasking, organizational, and prioritization skills are necessary.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines, and work independently and cooperatively with team members is required.

  • Awareness of and sensitivity to multi-cultural international development work and ability to train and facilitate dialogue among a diverse group of individuals with various skill sets and working styles.

  • Commitment to working with community members to make concrete improvements to their livelihoods and living conditions.
