Knut demands forensic audit of 2016 KCSE results

Knut wants a thorough and comprehensive forensic audit of the 2016 KCSE results saying they do not reflect the true performance of candidates.

Secreraty general Wilson Sossion said the union had identified clear breaches in the marking process that were overlooked by Knec and Education CS Fred Matiang'i.

In an interview, Sossion said Knut was in the process of seeking Parliament's intervention in its quest to have the exam results cancelled.

He said the union established, through a probe, that examiners deployed to administer and mark the exams were convinced beyond doubt that due process was not followed in marking and releasing the exams.

"We launched our own investigations as a union and we have consulted widely and we have come to the conclusion that these results are not a true reflection of candidates' performance," he said on Friday.

He said a fair and transparent process must be followed.

"We cannot celebrate an individual yet a generation is buries. We will seek alternative ways if we cannot be listened to," he said.

Sossion argued that the exams were not moderated during marking, adding that the marking scheme was not discussed and adopted by the examiners,

He also faulted the rush in releasing the results, saying it was "insane" for the entire country to get a total of 141 As, compared to 2,685 in 2015.

During the release, Matiang'i had said all the 88,929 candidates who scored C+ and above would be absorbed in public universities.

Matiang'i said only 4,645 candidates scored grade A– (minus), 10,975 attained B+, while 17,216 scored B plain.

A total of 55,952 candidates scored between C plus and B minus.
