Knec fails the test yet again as more errors spotted

For the second time in a week, the ongoing Kenya Certificate for Secondary Education (KCSE) examination was interrupted over mistakes.

Two questions in Mathematics Paper 2 had glaring mistakes, putting Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) on the spot again.

Last week, three questions in Kiswahili Paper 2 also had errors.

In the latest incident, Knec learnt of the mistakes a few minutes before the students finished the mathematics paper.

Teachers Service Commission (TSC) asked head teachers to rectify questions three and 23 which had anomalies.

According to a source from the Ministry of Education, the two questions had mistakes which confused the candidates.

"In one of the questions there was a spelling mistake while in the other the word 'centimetres squared' had been left out," said the source.

Meanwhile in Naivasha, two students sat the national examination at the Naivasha Sub-County Hospital where they are admitted.

One of the students from Naivasha Day gave birth hours to the exam while the second one from a school in Kinangop was admitted after a failed suicide attempt.

A doctor in the facility said that the two were admitted on Monday morning and proceeded to sit for the mathematics paper. Speaking on phone, Naivasha Sub-County Education officer Bernard Chirchir said the hospital had created space for the students to write their exams and that an invigilator, and a security officer were at hand to supervise them.

"We have two candidates who sat for the mathematics paper from Naivasha Sub-County Hospital and all proceeded well and we have received their papers back," he said.
