Eastern Uganda again registered worst PLE performance- UNEB

Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) says the eastern region has again registered a high failure rate by the candidates who sat for the 2017 primary examination exams.

According to the executive secretary of Uganda national examination board, all the 10 worst districts with high failure rates are from the Eastern region.

He noted that Kween District registered the highest failure rates followed by Bukwo, Tororo,Kayunga, Mbale,Mayuge, Kamuli, Buvuma,Budaka and Bududa respectively.
He urged the education minister, Janet Museveni and her ministry to do something for the eastern region since even last year, majority of the poor performing districts were from the eastern region.

Meanwhile, UNEB says boys have again performed better than their female counterparts in the 2017 primary leaving examinations.

Mr Odongo said despite an increase in the candidature of female pupils who sat for the exams, their performance has remained poor compared to their male counter parts.

According to the results, 32,120 (5.1%) boys passed in first division compared to 25,078 (4.0%) females who passed in first division. A total of 23,669(3.8%) boys failed completely compared to 33,685(5.4) females who failed.

Mr Odongo added that 333,494 ( 51%) girls sat for the 2017 exams compared to male with 312,695 (48.7%).
