Apple II

  • The Apple II, also known as the Apple ][, was an 8-bit home computer released by Apple on June 10, 1977. It was designed by Steve Wozniak in conjunction with Steve Jobs. The standard model cost $1,298.

  • The Apple II had a 1 MHz CPU and 4 kilobytes of RAM. The BASIC programming language was built into one of the computer's ROMs, allowing users to write their own computer programs. It used NTSC graphics output, capable of displaying on a standard TV monitor. It displayed text in monochrome and only uppercase letters, using 40 characters per line and 24 lines per screen. It also had low and high-resolution graphics modes, which could display color.

  • It came with an audio cassette tape drive for loading programs and saving data, and two game controllers. In 1978, Apple released a 5 1/4" floppy diskette drive for the Apple II, called the Disk II.
