Taita Taveta University Masters Scholarships in Kenya

CEMEREM Project

CEMEREM is a joint project between Taita Taveta University (TTU) of Kenya, two Germany Universities:

TU Bergakademie, Freiberg; and University of Applied Sciences, Dresden.

The Project focus is Mining, Environmental Engineering and Natural Resource Management, and involves teaching and research supervision by Kenyan and visiting German Professors.

The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs through DAAD.

The scholarships include a stipend and tuition fees for up to two years from September 2019 and will be granted to successful applicants from East Africa.

The study programme provides opportunities for summer school and research visits to Partner Universities in Germany, on a competitive basis in the 2nd year of study

Who can apply and the requirements

The CEMEREM scholarship programme is open to candidates from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Rwanda, and Burundi.

Applicants must be holders of a Bachelor’s degree with at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division).

The applications are open to those seeking scholarships as well as to those sponsoring themselves.

General Requirements

Candidates will be selected based on the following criteria:

a) Good previous academic results

b) Motivation and qualification in the required subject area

c) Language competency

d) Social engagement

Minimum admission requirements for the Masters programmes

1. Master of Science in
Environmental
Engineering


Duration : 2yrs
Be a holder of a Bachelor of Science degree with at least Second
Class Honours (Upper Division) in any of the relevant
Engineering fields from a recognised university such as Mining,
Mineral Processing, Environmental, Mechanical,
Manufacturing, Civil and Construction, Electrical, Process, or
Geological Engineering.
2. Master of Science in
Process Engineering



Duration: 2 Years
Be a holder of a Bachelor of Science degree with at least Second
Class Honours (Upper Division) in any of the relevant
Engineering fields from a recognised university such as Mining,
Mineral Processing, Environmental, Mechanical,
Manufacturing, Civil and Construction, Electrical, Process, or
Geological Engineering.
3. Master of Science in
Mining Engineering





Duration: 2 Years
(i) Be a holder of at least a Second Class Honours (Upper
Division) BSc degree in Mining and Mineral Processing
Engineering; Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering,
Geomatic Engineering, or any related Earth Sciences from Taita
Taveta University, OR
(ii) Be a holder of at least a Second Class Honours (Upper
Division) BSc degree in a field in Engineering, Geology,
Geophysics, Geochemistry or Environmental Science from any
other institution recognized by the University Senate as being of
equivalent academic status to (i) above, OR
(iii) Be a holder of a Second Class Honours (Lower Division)
BSc degree in the relevant field from Taita Taveta University or
from any other institution recognized by the University Senate
as being of equivalent academic status and who, in addition,
must show proof of either two years relevant experience and or
of academic advancement through research and publication
since graduation with the bachelor’s degree or a postgraduate
Diploma in the relevant field, OR
(iv) Be a holder of other qualifications recognized by University
Senate as being equivalent to (i), (ii), and (iii)
4. Master of Business
Administration
(Natural Resource
Management)


Duration: 2 years.
Be a holder of a Bachelor’s degree with at least Upper Second
Class Honours in any discipline or its equivalent from an
institution recognized by the University Senate, OR
Be a holder of a Bachelor’s degree with Lower Second Class
Honours in any discipline, provided the candidate can show
proven evidence of research ability or three (3) years relevant
experience in a relevant field, OR
Be a holder of a Bachelor’s degree at Pass level in any discipline
from a recognized University with five (5) years post
qualification experience. If less than five (5) years, the holder
must have a Post Graduate Diploma with Credit in a relevant
field from Kenya National Examinations Council or any other
institution recognized by the University Senate.

Duration of the Programmes and Language of Instruction

The programmes shall run for two academic years on a full-time basis and shall be taught in English.

  • Copies of acquired university degrees and academic transcripts
  • Motivation letter (maximum 700 words) describing the applicant’s academic, professional and personal reasons for applying for a Master’s Programme.
  • Up-to-date Curriculum Vitae.
  • Two letters of recommendation (academic/professional reference).

    Available Positions in each Programme

    For each Programme with scholarships only three (3) scholarships will be availed.

    However, self-sponsoring candidates wishing to pursue the same programme are welcome to apply for the twelve (12) positions detailed below:
