The Hans Foundation (THF) is introducing one year ‘The Hans Fellowship Program’ with the objective to create a cadre of visionary leaders.

These leaders would be groomed to undertake catalytic and collaborative roles in facilitating social development processes for inclusive and equitable society.

The Hans Foundation (THF) is a registered Indian Public Charitable trust established in 2009.

It is one of the largest grant making foundations supporting organizations for development programs in the areas of health, education, disability and livelihoods.

With funding support to more than 300 organisations, it has footprints in 26 states across India and benefited more than 7 million underprivileged in the country.

The Fellowship Program would:

Provide young professionals with an opportunity to work with THF’s NGO Partners, create positive change and give a potential start to a career in the development sector.

Provide THF’s NGO Partner organizations with young talents who can support the organizations with their skill sets.

Program Structure

The Fellows will, in the first two weeks of the Fellowship, receive orientation and training. During the training period, the Fellows will also make visits to project sites to be exposed to the kind of projects the organization supports. The Fellows are expected to actively participate in all components of the training.

The Fellows will then be placed with different host organizations for eleven months. During these eleven months, THF will also organize one mid-term and one end-term review workshop/ cross-learning sessions. It is mandatory for all Fellows to attend these sessions.

What kind of support will fellows be provided during the program?

  • A stipend of R35,000 pm, including TA to meet fellow’s official travel requirements.
  • Cost of 3AC fare to travel
  • Medical insurance would be provided for all the Fellows
  • Support from the Partner organization in finding suitable accommodation on payment by the fellows.

    What can the fellows expect from the fellowship?

  • Develop understanding on evolving interventions to address underlying causes of social and economic inequities through actual field exposure
  • Gain practical knowledge on program management, program development and stakeholders’ engagement for replicable and sustainable models
  • Opportunity to learn from Mentors on practical issues around leadership, decision making, monitoring and evaluation, resource management and team management.
  • Acquire knowledge on managing donors and resource mobilization

    What options will be open to fellows on completion of the program?

    The Fellows are expected to continue working in the development sector in the area of research, policy making, planning, advocacy, monitoring and evaluation, project management, grant writing, and so on.

    They could also choose to go for higher studies and are encouraged to take up field researches with the host organization, depending on their respective interest areas.

    Eligibility Criteria

  • THF is now inviting applications for its cohort starting September.

    The following criteria has to be fulfilled to make a candidate eligible:

  • Age between 21 and 28 years at the time of application.
  • Post-graduate/Masters (in any discipline) -preference would be given to candidates with a qualification/ experience in social sciences, rural development, community health, education and other aligned thematic areas.
  • Indian citizen, and residing in India for the past one year.
  • Prepared to be placed in any part of the country for fellowship.
