Building GBV Evidence in Refugee and Humanitarian Settings Grants

The Global Women Institute (GWI) is pleased to announce the Building GBV Evidence Grant: a funding opportunity for humanitarian agencies, civil society, women's organizations or universities to implement GBV research and M&E activities in refugee and humanitarian settings.

Purpose

The Building GBV Evidence grant will provide funding for organizations to:

  • Conduct their own research to improve GBV programming
  • Improve their M&E systems
  • Conduct secondary analysis on existing data
  • Conduct process evaluations for existing programming
  • Improve capacity for GBV M&E or research within their organization

    Funding Information

    Phase 1: Inception Phase

  • The inception phase should be used to further develop your proposal. GWI will lead a remote workshop with key staff during this time. Funding can be used for activities such as (though not limited to): formative research, staff support to gather for workshops or training, staff salary support to develop the full proposal, costs for IRB submissions, travel to bring partners together for planning meetings, etc.

    Amounts will be $10,000 - $15,000 USD

  • Phase 1 is expected to award between 1 – 4 grants in total
  • Funding will be for a period of 3 months

    Phase 2:

  • The purpose of phase 2 will be to implement what you have developed in phase 1. Funding can be used to conduct a research project to improve GBV programming, further development of an M&E system, conduct secondary analysis of existing data, conduct process evaluation on existing programming, or improve capacity for GBV M&E or research within your organization.

    Funding for phase 2 is contingent on successful completion of phase 1.

  • Estimated start date will be September – November
  • Period: 12– 18months
  • Phase 2 is expected to award between 1 – 4 grants in total

    Potential funding amounts are the following:

  • For an organization applying alone: $30,000 – $100,000 USD
  • For an organization applying in partnership with another organization (at least 1 organization must be local): $30,000 – $200,000 USD
  • For 3 organizations or more (must include at least 2 local organizations): $30,000 - $300,000 USD

    Eligibility Criteria

    Eligible organizations:

  • International or national NGOs
  • Civil society/women’s organizations
  • Academics based in the global south
  • Consortiums or partnerships are welcome to apply (including academics/operational agency partnerships; international/local organization partnerships)

    Eligible countries:

    Refugee context in one of these locations: Thailand, Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, or Turkey Global or multi-country efforts can also be proposed but must include refugee populations.

    Apply by 19th February.
