Youth without documents turned away in NYS recruitment

Hundreds of the youth who turned up for the National Youth Service (NYS) recruitment in Marakwet were turned away due to lack of requisite documents, recruiting officer Harrison Kioko said.

Kioko said the youth did not have good conduct, medical and academic certificates.

“The requirements for recruitment were clearly outlined in the advertisement carried in the local dailies in mid October but many youth have unfortunately not adhered to our instructions,” he noted.

The recruiting officers were also concerned that persons with disabilities skipped the exercise despite being urged to attend.

Kioko challenged disabled youth and orphans to turn up in large numbers during NYS recruitment exercises in order to acquire important life skills.

He said persons with disabilities are also recruited and offered specialized training under the new NYS.

The recruitment saw a total of 60 youth in both Marakwet East and West recruited to the NYS after exercises conducted in the areas on Monday and Tuesday respectively.

A number of those who turned up submitted applications to get into a free training program organized by the Ministry of Agriculture to train youth from across the country on artificial insemination skills.

The pilot program will equip trainees with various agricultural skills and they will receive agri-business equipment upon completion.
