Micronutrient Initiative Vacancies in Africa

The post-holder will work in collaboration with other MI Africa technical staff working in related areas - Behavior Change, Research and Evaluation, Monitoring and Reporting as well as having close liaison with Senior Technical Advisors for Adolescent Health and Nutrition and Maternal and Newborn (MN) Health and Nutrition in REU, HQ.


Education and Experience
• Postgraduate level degree in medicine, nursing, public health, nutrition or health-related disciplines, essential.
• Qualification or training in Adolescent and Maternal and Newborn Health is desirable
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in Public Health and Nutrition preferably in the Africa Region.
• At least 7 years of clinical experience working in the ANC clinic, labour, postnatal and neonatal wards.
• At least 5 years’ experience in international development work and in particular program design and management
• Experience in qualitative research, monitoring and evaluation

8. Regional Advisor, Behavior Change Communication, Africa. (Ref:KENRO- 09)

Overall Purpose/Broad Function

Working as part of MI’s Technical Team, and based in the Africa Regional Office in Kenya, the position advises MI staff, MI external partners and consultants in Africa on appropriate strategies for positive behavior change relating to MI’s programs, based on responsiveness, recommended practices, theory and innovation.

The position will help MI staff and stakeholders identify opportunities to improve enabling environments and encourage care-givers to more effectively seek and use health services and have providers more effectively offer micronutrient interventions, thereby increasing the overall effectiveness and impact of MI interventions in Africa.

Education and Experience
• Master’s degree essential in any of the following disciplines: public health, nutrition, social sector program policy and planning, medical/applied anthropology or similar relevant discipline; with a focus on program communications, social marketing or similar strategies for behavior change.
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the behavior change field in the health sector, with a strong preference for substantial experience in Sub-Sahara Africa and understanding of nutrition.
• Solid knowledge of community development and behavioral theories that underpin effective approaches in developing effective behavior change strategies.
• Expertise and experience in designing and conducting qualitative research.
• Excellent knowledge of IT tools.

9. Senior Monitoring and Reporting Officer (Ref: KENRO- 11)

Overall Purpose/Broad Function

To support the Africa Regional Monitoring and Reporting Manager in ensuring that high quality program performance monitoring and donor reports are timely generated.

Education and Experience
• At least a Masters degree from a recognized university specializing in Monitoring and Evaluation.
• Training in Epidemiology and Research methodologies preferred.
• Experience
• At least 10 years of experience Monitoring and Evaluation of programs and projects.
• At least 5 years experience with Monitoring and Reporting for donor funded health and nutrition programs
• Familiarity with HMIS, DHS, MICS is preferred.

10. Contracting and Procurement Manager, Africa Region (Ref: KENRO- 12)

Overall Purpose/Broad Function

The Manager for Contracting and Procurement, Africa Region is responsible for supporting the contracting and procurement activities within the region.

The position ensures effective and efficient contracting and procurement within the region, including
adherence to the organization’s policies and procedures.

This position also ensures that all the contracts comply with relevant local laws and recognized procurement practices and offer value for money.

Education and Experience
• A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Law, Procurement or related field, supply chain management/logistics from reputable university.
• Professional qualification in procurement as well as membership of a professional body with good standing.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in contract management and procurement.
• Experience of handling donor related contracts would be preferable.

Knowledge:
• The incumbent should have knowledge of Procurement, applicable laws and regulations, administration and management, personnel and human resources, economics and accounting, relevant tools and technology, customer and personal service, and education and training.

Skills:
• The incumbent should have the following skill sets: negotiation, persuasion, supervisory, active listening and learning, critical thinking, analytical thinking, judgment and decision making, reading comprehension, management of material resources, project management, time management, presentation, and operations analysis.

    11. Regional Human Resources Manager, Africa (Ref; KENRO- 13)

    Overall Purpose/Broad Function

    The Regional Human Resources Manager provides HR advice and functional expertise to regional and country staff.

    Reporting to the Regional Director, the Regional Human Resources Manager ensures that MI’s HR policies and practices are applied and followed consistently in the Regional Office and Country offices.

    He/she oversees the regional human resources functions, including: Recruitment & Selection, Policy Administration, Performance Management, Training & Development, Benefit Administration, and Employee Relations.

    Education and Experience
    • University degree in HR, Business, or related field is required.
    • Certification by a national or international HR institution (CHRP, SHRM) preferred.
    • Masters’ degree and other professional certification is an asset
    • A minimum of 8 years’ of progressive experience in HR
    • Significant experience in recruitment & selection for senior and highly technical roles
    • Experience in developing or implementing HR projects, such as HRIS, employee surveys, compensation systems
    • Knowledge of HR legislation within the Africa Region
