Qualifications


  • Doctoral degree or its equivalent in Education, Social Sciences with 6 years’ post qualification working experience with at least ten (10) years working experience with students and proven ability to effectively interact with students and other members of the University community;
  • Registration with relevant professional body; and
  • ICT Competence

    Responsibilities
    Will report to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics and Students Affairs).
  • Liaising with other service departments that affect Housing, Health, Catering, Sports and Welfare of students including Guidance, Counseling and Wardenship.
  • Advising the Students Governing Council as well as Congress in matters concerning its functions and regulate expenditure of its finances.
  • Administration of Kibabii University Students’ Organization (KIBUSO) elections and to oversee a smooth transition from one outgoing SGC and Congress to a new one.
  • Arranging in conjunction with the students’ organization various types of entertainment for students and coordinating all other cultural activities and co- curricular activities.
  • Helping in clearing students leaving/entering the country to/from other countries in conjunction with the Ministry of Education.
  • Planning, preparing and directing students’ welfare activities;
  • Keeping in safe custody all KIBUSO equipment and maintaining records for them.
  • Overseeing the management of students’ centre facilities.
  • Undertaking such other official assignments as may be assigned from time to time by the Vice Chancellor or Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic and Students Affairs).

  • Clearance from Credit Reference Bureau
  • Criminal Investigation Department (Certificate of Good Conduct)
  • Letters of recommendation from at least three persons familiar with the applicant’s professional experience and character in general should also be sent to the address below before 31st January, 2017 by 5 pm.

    Requirements


  • A Ph.D. in Library and Information Sciences or its equivalent with 12 years working experience 3 of which as Deputy Librarian Scale 14 or its equivalent.
  • Registered with relevant professional body.
  • ICT Competence.

    Responsibilities
    Will reporting to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics and Students Affairs).
  • Developing and managing collections
    of books and journals (both paper and electronic), as well as websites;
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with academic staff and students;
  • Contributing to academic course development and liaising with academic departments;
  • Coordinating and delivering information and digital literacy sessions to staff and students;
  • Creating, updating and managing electronic and printed information resources;
  • Selecting, acquiring and cataloguing information using library and information software;
  • Assisting researchers with literature searches using databases, printed resources and the internet;
  • Managing and supporting the provision of reading lists and allocating length of loans;
  • Dealing with user enquiries, which may involve one-on-one advice sessions;
  • Dealing with budgets in relation to your allocated subject areas/departments and, in some cases, purchasing resources;
  • Liaising with library colleagues in other campuses and colleges;
  • Carrying out staff management, which may involve recruitment and selection, appraisals, support and development, disciplinary action, staff rotas and training, as well as allocating daily tasks;
  • Maintaining relationships with external bodies, such as suppliers;
  • Managing buildings, furniture and equipment;
  • Keeping up to date with relevant professional developments in the library services sector;
  • Participating in professional groups or networks.
  • Managing and motivating staff;
  • Overseeing the building of new libraries or the refurbishment of existing libraries; and
  • Undertaking such other official assignments as may be assigned from time to time by the Vice Chancellor or his authorized officer.
