Guide on Form one selection published

Guidelines on form 1 selection have been released.

This comes ahead of the release of Kenya certificate of Primary Education examination results for 937,467 pupils on Wednesday.

Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang wrote to county directors of education and secondary school heads and said that selection would be on merit, equity and choice of schools.

Dr Kipsang said five top boys and girls in every sub-county would be placed in national schools of their choice.

“However, the top three will be selected first across all sub-counties and then the remaining two according to their marks because there are areas with very few students hence the equity requirement,” the Education PS said.

He added that all other pupils in every sub-county would be selected according to their marks between public and private schools.

When candidates are not admitted to schools of their choice despite their marks, they will be placed in schools of “comparable level of performance,” the PS said.

Dr Kipsang said there would be computation of quotas, pre-selection, selection to special needs education and integrated schools, national schools, extra county, county, sub-county selection and replacement.

“At national, extra-county and county levels, selection is fully computerised and based on merit and candidates’ choice as much as possible,” he said.

The 103 national schools have been grouped into four sets and candidates were expected to choose one from every set.

In the extra county schools, the ratio of public to private school candidates will be 70:30.

Priority would be given to candidates who sat for the examination in 2015 while those who sat earlier would be considered later.
