Western schools post sterling performance

National public schools emerged top in Western region in this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.

Friends School Kamusinga and Chavakali High led the pack with Lugulu, Bunyore Girls and Booker Academy Mumias, a private school also posting sterling performance.

Milton Omondi from Kamusinga obtained grade A (plain) of 85 points to secure a slot among top 100candidates nationally.

Joan Omukaga Nekoye from Booker Academy and Simon Peter Muchai from Chavakali bagged grade A (plain) with 83 points each to finish close second in this year’s KCSE examinations.

Best candidate

Others who scored grade A (plain) with 81 points are Elisha Wasike and Joel Masiga both from Friends School Kamusinga and Hassan Sitati from Chavakali.

Kamusinga posted three straight As, one less what the school recorded in last year’s KCSE exams.

The school produced the best candidate in the region, Moses Wekesa Wanyama who obtained 82 points last year.

The candidate was ranked position 31 nationally then.

He was followed closely by Oduor Fredrick Omondi of Kakamega High, who scored 82 points and was ranked position 48 nationally.

But this year, academic giants in the region including Kakamega High, Butere Girls, Vihiga Boys and Bungoma Boys failed to prove their academic prowess and were shown dust once again by rival schools.

Conspicuously missing was Chebuyusi High School which surprised many in last year’s KCSE finishing second in Western behind Kamusinga and was ranked 16th nationally.

The school managed a mean score of 8.911 to beat the giants, however, the results were later cancelled.

John Mark Wandera, Booker Academy Principal said the school managed to sustain the momentum by posting good results.

“Despite all difficulties we have gone through as a school, teachers and students remained focused,” he said.

In Busia County, Sigalame Boys continues to post good results.

In the 2018 KCSE announced yesterday the school recorded at least three A-.

It was among schools that performed well in last year’s exam.

Felix Wandera of Sigalame emerged top candidate in the county with a mean grade of A- (77
points) followed by Lewis Namwalo of the same school who also got A- of 76 points while Filex Odongo got A- of 76 points.

School Principal Joseph Were attributed the sterling results to sheer hard work of both the students and teachers.

Top student at Nangina Girls in Funyula, Immaculate Akinyi got a B+ of 72 points.
