Under the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Management Officer/GEF Portfolio Manager and the overall supervision of the Director of the Freshwater, Land and Climate Branch, the incumbent is responsible for:

Responsibilities
•Participate in the development of assigned project proposals, especially those funded by Global Environment Facility (GEF), Adaptation Fund (AF) and Green Climate Fund (GCF). Liaise with country counterparts, partners, consultants and the secretariats of the funding bodies in the course of proposal development.
•Participate in the implementation of assigned projects, especially those funded by the GEF, AF and GCF; monitor and analyze project development and implementation; review relevant documents and reports; liaise with relevant partners; identify and track follow-up actions.
•Identify problems and issues to be addressed in project implementation and propose corrective actions.
•Coordinate activities related to budget and funding (project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and prepare related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc.)
•Participate in field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries.
•Provide substantive support to consultative and other meetings, including proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations.
•Undertake outreach activities; conduct training workshops, seminars; make presentations on assigned topics/activities.
•Research, analyze and present information gathered from diverse sources.
•Prepare various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analyze, sections of reports and studies and inputs to publications.
•Perform any other related duties as may be required.

    Education
  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in biological sciences, environmental sciences, political sciences, economics, law or a related field.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

    Work Experience
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in program and/or project management or a related area is required.
  • Proven experience in project management methodologies (e.g. PRINCE 2).
  • Experience in environmental and climate change adaptation is highly desirable.

    Languages
    English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
