UACE: How Students Performed in 2018

A total of 36,656 (37.5%) candidates passed with three principal passes, compared to 34,819 (34.7%) in 2017.

Performance of students who sat the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education Examination (UACE) in 2018 was remarkable.

In fact, there was stiff competition for students seeking to join universities, especially for popular courses such as medicine, engineering and law.

2018 UACE results were released by the state minister for higher education, Dr John Chrysostom Muyingo.

Students passed with two and three principal passes compared to the previous year 2017.

Besides the wonderful performance, the number of candidates who excelled also went up.

To get admitted to any university in the country, a minimum of two principal passes is all a candidate needs.

A total of 99,576 candidates registered for 2018 Senior Six national examinations at 2,094 centres around the country.

A total of 36,656 (37.5%) candidates passed with three principal passes, compared to 34,819 (34.7%) in 2017.

Another 26,467 (27.2%) passed with two principal passes, compared to 26,122 (26%) in 2017.

This means 63,123 candidates, which is 64.7% of all candidates who sat for the examinations, were eligible to join university.

83,536 candidates passed with one principal pass, the minimum requirement to join any other tertiary institution in the country.

The results also showed that a high percentage of candidates (98.6%) qualified for the award of the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education.

In terms of percentages, female candidates performed better than their male counterparts at principal pass level (A to E) in arts (humanities), physics and agriculture.

The male candidates were better in mathematics, chemistry, biology, art and general paper.
