Parents set to shed exam fee load next year

Secondary schools should, in 2015, charge the fees they levied this year, Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi has directed.

Consultations, he said, were ongoing on a report of the task force that seeks to slash the cost of education in Kenya.

The task force was chaired by former Education Assistant Minister Kilemi Mwiria.

The CS warned of disciplinary action against schoolheads found flouting the ministry’s order on fees.

He assured parents that the ministry would pay exam fees for all KCPE and KCSE candidates from next year.

CURRICULUM NEEDS

He also announced that starting next year, teacher rationalisation would be done to ensure equitable distribution and optimum use of their services.

The process that seeks to lessen the burden of hiring additional teachers by school boards will be guided by student and pupil enrolment and curriculum needs.
