Little-known Kisima sinks area giants

A school that supports bright students from from poor families felled the regions' academic giants in this year's KCSE examination

Kisima Mixed Secondary School in Nyahururu posted a mean grade of B+ (9.5 points) up from last year's grade B (9.2 points) to emerge among the best in the country.

It also produced some of the best students in the region with 11 top students scoring a mean grade of A-.

They were Kinuthia Kirimi, Okeno Elphas, Amwilu Asumwa, Mwangi Kihara, Abdi Sar, Kirigo Sandra and Kiiru Wambui.

The rest were Loipurai Lemarkat, Simon Nganga, Abas Ibrahim and Valarian Nganga.
The school supports bright students from under-privileged families in Nyandarua, Laikipia and Samburu counties.

According to the school's principal, David Amunga, this years examination results were among the best in the school's history.

“Being ranked among the best in the country is the best news we have received so far,” said an elated Mr Amunga.

He attributed the good performance to discipline and hard work by the students.

“Discipline is our first chore. That is why we have managed to achieve this," he said.

He also praised the collaboration between teachers, students and their parents.

“We work as members of one community and this has also played a lot in getting these results,” he said.

The school takes in students whose parents and guardians cannot afford school fees.

“We are proud of what they have achieved," said Amunga.
