Kenya Markets Trust (KMT) is a Kenyan organization that works in partnership with the private and public sectors, to unleash large scale, sustainable and inclusive market growth by changing the underlying incentives, capacities and rules that shape how markets work.

The Role
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the HHRA will provide leadership in the development and implementation of KMT’s HR and Administration agenda.

The HHRA will, inter alia:
  • Develop KMT’s long term organizational competence & capability by aligning processes, work flows, procedures, structures and systems to fit current business and future realities and deliver the strategy.
  • Drive a culture of high performance and productivity.
  • Maintain optimal staffing levels within the organization.
  • Develop and implement a compelling employee value proposition (EVP) based on career opportunities, organization values and an attractive & effective reward and recognition scheme.
  • Drive harmonious employee relations.
  • Design and implement human resource management policies and procedures, workflows and templates and strategies that fully comply with all people management and labour regulations; that are efficient, effective, timely and impactful in the management of people in the organization and clearly contribute to the achievement of the organizations’ business strategy objectives.
  • Facilitate statutory and internal audits in the HR department – internal and external auditors; KRA (PAYE), Government – NSSF, NHIF; NITA, etc.; RBA – compliance, etc.
  • Provide a platform for mentorship and coaching to build staff capacity & competence.
  • Play the role of custodian of KMT’s duty of care responsibility.
  • Oversee the overall office administration, both in Nairobi and the regional offices, including the management of contracts (cleaning etc.), the logistics team as well as company fleet.

    Qualifications
  • A Degree in Human Resource Management or related field with a Higher Diploma in Human Resources Management, from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • At least 10 years HR generalist experience with at least 4 years’ experience gained in a senior managerial level.
  • Must be a member of IHRM.
  • Proven track record in the development and management of the human resource function in a high performing, results-oriented, not for profit organization.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills.
  • Demonstrated high degree of interpersonal skills, able to manage interpersonal relationships with colleagues, donors and partners.

    Kenya Markets Trust (KMT) is a Kenyan organization that works in partnership with the private sector, county and national government to unleash large scale, sustainable and inclusive market growth by changing the underlying incentives, capacities and rules that shape how markets work.

    We focus on markets as they are the main mechanism through which wealth is created and growth occurs and our long-term goal is to deliver large scale, systemic change in selected markets that benefits all players including small businesses, larger firms, investors, producers and consumers.

    To achieve this, we identify markets with high growth potential but which are saddled with systemic constraints. Working with key market actors, policy makers and other stakeholders, we address these constraints to improve competitiveness, sustainability and inclusiveness.

    As a result, we hope to grow the range of market opportunities, support competition in these sectors, eventually creating a market system that is profitable to investors, improves incomes for suppliers and is beneficial to consumers.

    KMT currently works in 5 sectors namely Livestock; Dairy; Crop Seed; Agricultural Inputs and Water.

    The Role
    The Knowledge and Results Lead will provide leadership in implementation of KMT’s Knowledge, Results and Learning practice. The Knowledge and Results team ensures that KMT measures its progress towards achievement of its strategic objectives.

    Specifically, the Lead will support portfolio teams to design
    effective intervention plans in each sector, manage generation of results, manage internal and external knowledge to aid in decision-making, design and facilitate learning forums, coordinate reporting to different stakeholders, coordinate internal and external portfolio evaluations and provide evidence for strategic decision-making. The role reports to the Policy, Research and Knowledge Director.

    Position Description
    This position will have overall responsibility for the effective functioning of the Knowledge and Results management system within KMT with the following specific responsibilities.

    Strategy & Team leadership
  • Take charge of development and continual evolution of the Knowledge and Results strategy.
  • Manage the Knowledge and Results
  • Provide a strategic view on the development of the Knowledge and results measurement systems including but not limited to monitoring, evaluation and learning frameworks, impact research, use of technology among others

    Program Design and Monitoring
  • Lead the Knowledge and Results team in supporting sector teams to develop intervention plans consistent with KMT’s theory of change.
  • Verify and validate identified sector specific performance indicators.
  • Establish protocols for monitoring of KMT’s activities
  • Monitor implementation and progress of all activities, costs and milestones as appropriate to ensure appropriate sector performance

    Results Management
  • Provide oversight over design, and implementation of baseline, mid-term and final
  • Lead in the design of methodologies to appropriately measure identified indicators
  • Ensure that program portfolio teams align their interventions to sector impact objectives,
  • Support the refinement and measurement of institutional Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to track progress towards achievement of strategic objectives.

    Knowledge & Learning
  • Ensure that results feed into portfolio program
  • Maintain a high quality knowledge results and learning practice in
  • Develop and share data and information that tracks KMT’s organizational performance at portfolio and institutional levels.
  • Develop and disseminate knowledge products that meet the needs of internal and selected external audiences.

    Reviews and Audit
  • Support coordination of external

    Reporting

  • Lead in preparation of high quality portfolio and annual reports.
  • Develop periodic portfolio updates to the Board of directors.

    The Person
    The successful candidate will have sufficient exposure to knowledge and results measurement, with experience in private sector development programs being an added advantage.

    Qualifications
  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent in a relevant discipline including Social Sciences, Information Management, Project Management, Engineering, Finance or other relevant academic qualification.
  • 8-10 years’ experience, with at least 4 years gained as head of department or equivalent in a progressive private sector development organization.
  • Hands-on, senior level experience managing a Monitoring & Evaluation function in a development context.
  • Experience collaborating with a range of partners including implementing partners, donors among others.
  • Proven track record of successfully facilitating progressive organizational change and development within a growing organization.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills.
  • Demonstrated high degree of interpersonal skills, able to manage interpersonal relationships with colleagues, donors and partners.
  • A highly developed sense of client service and partnerships management.
  • Experience in and comfortable in the use of different technology products to manage information.
