KCPE: Joy as girls score top marks in Nakuru, Meru

Two girls are among candidates who scored the highest marks in the KCPE exams in Nakuru and Meru.

Sharon Muthoni of St Peter's Elite Academy scored 447 marks, while Sharon Murega of Kathigiri Boarding School had 445 marks.

Muthoni's father Bernard Njihia expressed joy, saying he knew his daughter would perform well.

"I'm more than happy with the results. I knew my daughter would record excellent performance but did not know she would be top in the county. I thank God," he told journalists,

The Kenyatta University professor said while his daughter was not sure what she wanted to pursue, she was overjoyed.

"With our guidance and her performance, she will select her line of career," Njihia added.

Another pupil, Gathoni Macharia, from the same school scored 444 marks.

In Kathigiri school, nine students scored 400 and above.

"The pupils were all self-motivated. We have been at the helm of exemplary performance for the last eight years," said Micheni Ragwa, the head teacher.

This year's top KCPE candidate scored 455 marks, an improvement from last year's 437.

Headteachers were "phenomenal" where performance was concerned, Education CS Fred Matiang'i said while releasing the results in Nairobi on Tuesday.

"We did not record any irregularities. Every one of our children is getting results with an accuracy rate of 99.98 per cent," he said. "No single case of malpractice was registered and there were no missing marks."
