7. AAH-U Vocational Instructor Job in Uganda


Reports to:
Vocational Training Coordinator

Liaises with: Project Staff, Workshop Technical staff

Job summary: To deliver a coordinated, integrated Vocational Training and learning programme in an inclusive manner to meet students’ needs in line with donor and AAH Uganda guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To work closely with the Vocational Training Coordinator to plan the delivery of the training syllabus.
  • Participate proactively in student enrolment activities, including interviewing, participation in open days, induction sessions.
  • Plan assignments to meet the requirements of the qualification and ensure that the students are aware of the assessment timetable and examination dates;
  • Ensure all assignments are internally verified /moderated in line with Academy requirements;
  • Keep course records on enrolment, retention and achievement and closely monitor and record student progress
  • Prepare and deliver lessons and other associated learning materials in a professional and competent manner;
  • Prepare and mark assessments, projects, tests and examinations in accordance with the requirements of the course;
  • Organise and maintain all workshop /classroom equipment and tools, ensuring that the correct equipment, resources are available in the right places, in the correct quantities and in a sound condition ready for use at all times
  • Monitor stock level of all goods (both consumable and capital items) used for training in liaison with the Parts manager and Vocational Training Coordinator.
  • Assist with the development and promotion of market driven courses as appropriate and in line with AAH and donor Vocational Training guidelines.
  • Ensure that all practical activities involving students are adequately risk assessed to maintain a safe working and learning environment.
  • Ensure quality assurance checks/students feedback surveys are collected and acted upon.
  • To carry out such other duties appropriate to the job as may be required by the Vocational Training Coordinator.

    Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Vocational studies in technological studies with education, Technical Teacher Education-Mechanical Engineering
  • Craft 2 certificate (or equivalent) in Bricklaying, Painting & Decorating or Carpentry & Joinery will be of an added advantage
  • 3 years’ experience in general building work and working within Education

    8. AAH-U Workshop Supervisor Job in Arua, Uganda

    Reports to:
    Logistics Operations Manager

    Staff reporting to this post: Senior Mechanic / Electrician / other maintenance staff

    Liaises with: Fuel Supervisor, Parts manager, and Mechanical Section Heads

    Duty Station: Arua with frequent travel to field sites

    Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise the work performed by the workshop Auto and industrial electrician, and ensure the work performed meets standard requirements through scheduling, assigning work, assessing job completion, monitoring leave and absences of workshop personnel in line with performance management guidelines.
  • Monitor the implementation of activities for the repair and maintenance of generators mechanical and electrical accessories.
  • Carry out major repairs, breakdown of generators mechanical, electrical and accessories in
    sub offices.
  • Prepare and keep proper records of maintenance and repair carried out on all generators and prepare a list of items for preventive maintenance and electrical installation and submit to superior for follow up.
  • Organise assign and supervise the repair and maintenance section to guarantee a good and quality of service and repairs on all vehicles/generators and other equipment belongs to the organization.
  • Monitor the daily request and usage of Spare Parts to ensure their proper utilisation and fitting in line with user manuals.
  • Assist mechanics in ordering and requisitioning of all parts and approve materials required for the repair and maintenance of District level.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of parts by ensuring that issued parts are accounted for accurately on each work order.
  • Maintain shop activity to ensure efficient use of time, materials, and equipment. Estimate time required to complete repairs. Work with and train mechanics to meet industry standards
  • Coordinate the mechanical sections work / Report on the work performed by the mechanics (Mechanics Time Sheet). And on completion of work, jot down total time consumed during repairs and should be reflected to the individual job cards.
  • Monitor shop activity to ensure efficient use of tools and other equipment and other machinery, proper use of shop tools, care and control and ensure that the shop compliance with the safety rules and regulations, ensure all facility defects are promptly reported that all shop equipment is safe and operational.
  • Responsible for staff discipline at all times in the Repair and Maintenance Department. Playing and using derogative or abusive words to insult other staff members are considered prohibited.

    Qualifications and experience

  • Diploma in mechanical/Electrical engineering. A degree with carry added advantage
  • Experience in wiring and installations, servicing, repairing and maintenance of diesel and petrol driven generators ranging from 4KVA to 400KVA units or higher.
  • Experience in understanding schematic diagram and lay out of all electrical aspects of generator installation, including connecting generator to the electrical systems of the residences and offices in clean and tidy manner and with evenly distributed voltage.
  • Experience in supervising workshops of similar size.
  • Experience in spare parts management.
  • Advanced notions in computer literacy / data processing (Word, Excel, Access, Power point)

    Skills and Competencies

  • Relevant diploma in mechanical engineering.
  • Relevant experience in welding/Fabrication services of similar size.
  • English read / written / spoken.
  • At least 5 years’ work experience in a comparable or higher position
