Volunteering for a Short Period of Time

I want to know if I can do volunteer work in African countries for a period of about three months.

I am a student of the University of Malawi at The Malawi Polytechnic doing engineering in my first year.

Our longest holiday is in between mid December to mid March.

I really wish to do volunteer work to help in my land, Africa.
