    The Driver (Driver/Boat Operator), at the G-3 level, provides reliable and safe vehicle and boat driving services to staff as well as maintenance of boats, demonstrating the highest standards of professionalism, discretion, integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol, whilst ensuring compliance with local driving rules and regulations.

    Reporting to the Administrative Assistant, the Driver/Boat Operator doubles as boat driver/mechanic and vehicle driver and has extra responsibilities for boat maintenance and operating the boat.

    Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

  • Reliable and safe driving services for staff and officials
  • Maintenance of assigned vehicle/boat
  • Documentation of vehicle-related information

    Qualifications required:

  • A secondary education is required, along with a valid driver’s license and knowledge of local driving rules and regulations.
  • A certificate in boat operation from a recognized institution.
  • A minimum of three years of work experience as a driver and boat operator in an international organization, embassy or UN system with a safe driving record is required.
  • Good knowledge of the city, local roads, riverways and conditions where the office is located;
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations for vehicles and boats, chauffeur protocol and courtesies;
  • Skills in minor vehicle repairs including boats;
  • Ability to deal patiently and tactfully with visitors;
  • High sense of confidentiality, initiative and good judgment;
  • Ability to work effectively with people of
    different national and cultural background;
  • Formal training and certification in boat operation;
  • Fluency of the local language of the duty station as well as proficiency in English is required.

    Please note:

  • Drivers/Boat Operators (Fixed Term positions) are being recruited for the following duty stations: Bor and Malakal.
  • Candidates are required to indicate in their cover letter their preferred locations in order of preference.
  • UNICEF staff members whose position is abolished or upgraded will be given preference in line with applicable policies.
  • The recruitment process to fill these positions will be competitive and conducted as a batch selection process which may include a driving test.
  • To ensure fairness and transparency, UNICEF Staff Association Executive Committee members may be part of the selection process.
