UNEP Special Assistant, Political Affairs Jobs in Kenya

Responsibilities

• Support and advise the Executive Director through coordination and strategic prioritization of all communications addressed to the Executive Director.
• Maintain liaison and serve as primary contact for smooth communication between the Executive Director/Executive Office and UN Environment Divisions, Regional Directors, and Country heads of office.
• Support the Executive Director’s meetings:

Education

  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in political science, social science, international relations, international economics, law, public administration or other related field.
  • A first level university degree with a combination of two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

    Work Experience

  • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in international political affairs, sustainable development, environmental management, international relations or related areas.
  • Experience working at national and international levels.
  • Experience supporting high-level senior officials.

    Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
  • For the position advertised, fluency English is required.
  • Knowledge of French is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an asset.

    Assessment

    UNEP Chief of Staff Jobs in Kenya

    Responsibilities

    • Directing and managing the Executive Office through ensuring overall coordination of the substantive support to the Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director in the implementation of their mandates on behalf of the UN Secretary-General;
    • Providing strategic advice in planning for the Executive Director to fulfill his/her political and managerial objectives in cooperation with the Deputy Executive Director and the Senior Management Team at UN Environment;
    • Ensuring the effective running of the Senior Management Team meetings and Leadership Group meetings,
    • Maintaining liaison with high-ranking representatives of Member States, international organizations and other partners on substantive, political questions and providing advice to the Executive Director on these issues.
    • Managing the preparation of and reviewing draft correspondence, official statements, communication outputs and reports for the Executive Director's signature or clearance;
    • In the absence of the Executive Director or Deputy Executive Director, receiving visitors, performing representational functions, organizing and attending meetings on their behalf.

    Education

  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in humanitarian affairs, political science, environmental studies, ecology, earth science, international relations, development or related field.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

    Work Experience

  • A minimum of fifteen years of progressively
    responsible experience in political affairs, international relations, management or related area.;
  • At least five years at the international level in the areas of international affairs, development assistance or environment;
  • Experience in providing strategic policy advice to senior level officials;

    Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English and French is required.

    Responsibilities

    •Take the lead in strategy, planning, development and implementation of large, complex communications campaigns (e.g. global promotion initiatives, public information programmes for a region, broad-reaching subject specific issues, etc.);
    •Identify sources and seeks funding and other assistance for major campaigns.
    •Provide advice and expertise to managers, senior officers and other public information staff on a range of public affairs issues, methods, and approaches; anticipate and resolve communications/public relations issues/problems. •Develop strategic partnerships with key constituencies to elicit support for and maximize impact of promotional objectives; serve as a spokesperson/principal liaison to media organizations, governmental bodies, national groups, private sector organizations, educational organizations, international organizations, etc. •Prepare or oversees preparation of a diverse range of information communications products in support of major campaign initiatives.

    Education

  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

    Work Experience

  • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in public information, communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area. Experience in managing global communication campaigns is desirable.

    Languages
