Uganda Electricity Generation Senior ICT Officer Security and Infrastructure Jobs in Uganda



As UEGCL’s assets portfolio grows, the role will be responsible for the planning, design,
implementation and management of UEGCL’s core network and systems infrastructure to ensure
rightly sized, fit for purpose and technically compliant infrastructural solutions.

The role is also responsible for management the entire life cycle of several IT security and Infrastructural solutions, developing and coaching team members and pushing further for innovation and quality in the IT infrastructure area in order to achieve enhanced staff productivity, mobility, communication and collaboration


Responsibilities


  • Provide support input in the planning, specification, designing, development, implementation and maintenance of organization’s ICT infrastructure systems and carry out network services deployment matters, including security planning, backup progress, data integrity and recovery
    for DRP preparedness
  • Ensures efficient networks administration, focusing on achievement of the following results;
  • Monitoring of the computing resources to provide a stable and responsive environment
  • Operation of Network utility procedure defining network users and security attributes
    establishing directories, menus and drive- mappings, configuring network printers and
    providing surer access.
  • Monitoring of backup and restoration procedures for both server and local drives.
  • Timely upgrade of LAN infrastructure and internet connectivity to meet UEGCL
    requirements.
  • Participate in the assessment of operational and security infrastructure needs in each Uegcl Area of Responsibility (AOR).
  • Carry out the implementation of system security procedure to include server and system
    firewalls, host and client access, file permission and user accounts.
  • Supervise the implementation of the ICT operations plan and therefore ensure that all
    equipment is in good working conditions at all times as to meet the ICT needs of both head
    Office and Other UEGCL sites.
  • Participate in the management of the server room(s) and all hardware equipment there in:
    Participate in the management, administration and maintenance of servers (both physical and
    virtual) network devices, cloud infrastructure, PCs and the entire ICT infrastructure which
    includes the operating systems, hardware;
  • Install, configure, maintain multiple server, workstation, desktop and notebooks as well as after installation support for these infrastructure;
  • Ensure proper integration with other systems on the network.
  • Troubleshooting and managing call/ticket from the service helpdesk group and assist with
    systems support and administration 1st, 2nd and 3rd level users to all users in the organization (both remote and on site)
  • Perform software installation and upgrades to operating and layered software applications.
  • Carryout implementation of the review of policies and procedures for systems/network usage, internet and datacentre services
  • Manage, maintain and ensure that all ICT related systems e.g. audio and video conferencing systems, time and attendance systems etc. are up and running.
  • In partnership with HICT, construct and document and extensive disaster recovery procedures for the UEGCL’S infrastructure and ensure those procedures are up to date
  • Manage remote access to UEGCL servers and terminals to ensure security is maintained and
    remote desktop solutions used by ICT support staff meet needs of the users.
  • Conduct research on new and emerging technologies and advise the ICT Team on how best they can be used in the organization
  • Foster operational excellence through streamlined IT processes, standardization
    and
    automation
  • Perform all other duties as may assigned by the supervisor


    Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or associated discipline from a recognized university.
  • Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science (or related IT discipline),
    Management or Business Administration.
  • ICT Certifications; ITIL, Prince 2, CCNA, CCNP, CISSP, CISA, MSCSA.ICDL, amongst
    others will be an added advantage.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in Information Technology
  • Ability to recognise business opportunities and present a clear strategic vision of how
    technology can be applied to achieve success
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to explain complex IT information clearly to ‘lay’ managers and other stakeholders
  • Highly proactive and motivated
  • Proven track record at senior level of leading staff within an IT environment
  • Successful track record of implementation with delivery on time and to budget
  • Leading change in an IT environment
  • Developing, implementing and managing strategies and plans aligned to key business
    objectives
  • Contract management, negotiation and monitoring
  • Developing a proactive service
  • Effective working within teams and individually
  • Develop effective partnership working within the Association and with other stakeholders.
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to utilise and manage complex IT systems.
  • Ability to write and present reports to Top Management and the Board
  • Good negotiating skills
  • Ability to make decisions
  • Proven track record of managing and motivating staff
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and high level of integrity.
