Textile Production Manager Jobs in Kenya

Our client is one of the leading ethical clothing factories in the world. They wish to recruit a Production Manager to work from their branch in Voi, Kenya.


Within the next year our client plans to build another factory and double it’s capacity and is looking for a team member who will be the driver of production efficiency on the factory floor, excellent team manager and competent at client communication and relationship building.

This person prides him/herself on integrity, honesty and ethical practice and has real gravitas, excellent leadership, multi-tasking, organisational, and interpersonal skills. The person must be highly responsible, effective, confident and capable.

Responsibilities

Critical Path Management

  • On receipt of potential new order from client provide Merchandiser with production capacity and ex-factory date
  • Drive timeline process and ensure team members are aware of work to be completed within critical path
  • Ensure production flow efficiency between departments; to include optimum cell formation, lean manufacturing principles of reduced steps in garment construction, communication between supervisors to ensure no hold ups
  • Analyse the team’s capacity to meet Critical Path deadlines and highlight any foreseen bottlenecks
  • Constant communication with Merchandiser to update on status of order, any gaps or issues etc
  • Provide daily production output to Merchandiser
  • Obtain hourly output from supervisors and ensure any delays in production are resolved immediately
  • Work directly with Technician to ensure all machinery is in good working condition all the time
  • Report weekly on critical path activities and updates
  • Report a weekly exceptions list highlighting any issues that need resolving
  • Fulfill a general troubleshooting role in an autonomous nature with a positive attitude
  • Identifies improvement areas and plans and implements systems to boost company effectiveness

    Team Management

  • Overall direct management of Supervisors and production floor team
  • Management of Supervisors to ensure they are adequately fulfilling their roles
  • Setting targets and clear expectations of Supervisors; support and coach them to excel in their jobs
  • Work with the Human Resources team and Merchandiser on appraisals, employee contracts, all employee committees, contracts,
    disciplinary and staff training
  • Employee motivation and empowerment
    Spend two mornings per week at the Stitching
  • Academy to ensure high quality graduates at the skill level needed for employment in the factory
  • Provide training for machinists to ensure continual improvement in speed and quality of their work
  • Represent the company’s overall business strategies and work to implement and effect change in the daily work environment
  • Strategic thinking and implementation in order to improve efficiency of working and bring about growth
  • Work with our client's Community Trust team on the development and the sewing training school to ensure all graduates are compete potential employees within the factory.

    Communication

  • Ensure clear and constant communication within the team to build positive working relationships

    Qualifications

  • Degree/Diploma in Textile/Garment Manufacturing or relevant disciplines
  • At least 10 years working experience in garment production, of which over 5 years experience in senior management
  • Excellent knowledge in woven and knit garment construction
  • Knowledge and experience working with a vast selection of sewing machinery
  • Ideally have experience working in a small factory producing small production runs (MOQ 300 units)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Competent in Microsoft Office
  • Attention to detail, organisational and multitasking skills are essential
  • Strong leadership and management skills
    Initiative, reliability and honesty with can-do attitude
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to make production and logistics planning and ensure their prompt execution.
