SNV Development Project Manager-Kenya Market-led Horticulture Program Jobs in Kenya


Responsibilities

  • Execute overall project management, overall management of all human, physical and financial resources related to the project;
  • Guide the project set-up, including developing work plans, budgets and competence table with financial responsibilities and mandates;
  • Facilitate business matchmaking and market access: negotiate strategic alliances between partners, and facilitate meetings to develop Supply Chain Business Cases and to reach consensus between supply chain partners;
  • Identify investment opportunities in supply chains and market development;
  • Collect, organise and analyse market intelligence, information about markets and market partners and develop sustainable Supply Chain Business Cases in collaboration with commercial partners;
  • Liaise with local, public and private knowledge and training providers to explore their potential contribution to the KMHP program;
  • Organise and facilitate training activities with Kenyan and Netherlands’ partners;
  • Conduct and supervise impact monitoring and evaluation activities;

    Candidate Profile

    Management Competence
  • Substantial experience of programme management of large-scale, complex development cooperation project; strong private sector and business attitude;
  • At least 7 years of demonstrable experience in managing projects in a flexible and entrepreneurial manner, with a facilitative approach, while retaining strong focus on results and project implementation;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with proven team-building ability, necessary to support, motivate and mentor staff and partners;
  • Ability to create a creative, open-minded, constructive and innovative working environment;
  • Ability to incorporate or work with local organisations and actors in accordance to relevant Kenya in economics, business administration, agribusiness or marketing with emphasis on business development and marketing strategies, communication, public relations context;
  • Proven track record of managing project budget and financial planning.

    Technical Knowledge
  • Master’s Degree in relevant discipline: economics, business administration, agribusiness or marketing with emphasis on business development and marketing strategies, communication, public relations;
  • At least 5 years of practical experience in market facilitation and business development in the public as well as in the private sector;
  • Knowledge and experience on aspects of fresh and processed agro-food sector and agricultural supply chains in Kenya;
  • Good network in the Kenya and Dutch horticulture sector is an advantage;

    Responsibilities

  • Strategic leadership of the program (including multi-country efforts and potentially managing projects in other countries) within the overall parameters of SNV’s global strategy;
  • Business development to grow the country program, ensure financial sustainability of SNV in Kenya and ensure a high quality project design;
  • Leadership and management of the country team:
  • creating and nurturing an environment that
  • supports high performance, learning and teamwork;
  • Representation and profiling: building partnerships and maintaining excellent relationships with donors, partners, local governments, businesses, policy makers and other relevant stakeholders;
  • Collaboration with other SNV countries to effectively exploit opportunities for synergy, deliver at scale (including multi-country projects), exchange knowledge and strengthen SNV’s position;
  • In addition, Country Directors foster innovation of SNV products and services: facilitate learning, documentation and evidence based knowledge development in collaboration with SNV’s global team and partners; ensure collaboration with renowned knowledge institutes and networks.

    Qualifications

    Candidate Profile
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline;
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience at strategic level;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the international development context and trends in SNV’s three core sectors;
  • Proven ability of mobilizing resources from the public and private sector; familiarity with key financiers and
    actors in SNV’s 3 core sectors;
  • Strong business and people management capabilities with a focus on results and an entrepreneurial skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong networking and positioning skills at multiple levels;
  • Strong in implementation oversight;
  • Proven track record in project management;
  • Ability to relate with and manage relationships with government at federal and local levels;
  • Ability to coach, lead, stimulate, and inspire professionals in a development context;
  • Culturally aware, tactful and open minded;
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

    SNV Development Consultant - Sanitation Investment Plans Jobs in Kenya

    Scope of Work and Deliverables

  • Inception Report which should include:
  • Assignment methodology and approach
  • Detailed work-plan for the successful delivery of the assignment
  • Templates for information gathering from the sub-counties and counties. Data will be collected prior to the workshops.
  • Sub-County Strategic Planning Process and Workshop:
  • Review existing Sanitation Investment Plans for 8 sub-counties
  • Review of other background documents and prepare for the sanitation investment strategic planning workshop
  • Identify and mobilize the key participants to the workshop for all the sub-counties
  • Conduct a 2 day consultative workshop for the 13 sub-counties clustered at county level i.e. 4 separate meetings
  • Produce the draft Sub-County Sanitation Investment Plans
  • County Validation Workshops on Sub-County Sanitation Investment Strategic Planning
  • Prepare and facilitate the county level validation workshop on sanitation investment strategic planning (1 day in each county) to incorporate the views of the partners
  • Finalize the development of sub-county investment plans incorporating views from the validation workshops
  • Develop County Sanitation Investment Projections from the sub-county investment plans

    Qualifications

  • The successful consultant should be a consultancy firm / organization that has a track record of at least 5 years in WASH strategic planning processes at local government level.
  • Experience working with County Governments on similar assignments will be an added advantage.
  • The Successful Organization / Firm will be expected to present a profile of two consultants who will be responsible for delivering the assignment; The Lead Consultant and the Support Consultant.
  • The Lead Consultant should have at least 5 years of progressive experience in the field of WASH strategic planning with demonstrated experience in facilitating capacity strengthening & needs assessment activities for investment planning process.
  • He / she should have excellent facilitation, communication and negotiation skills
  • The Support Consultant should also be an experienced strategic planning and capacity development expert with at least 4 years of progressive experience in the WASH Sector planning.
  • Practical Experience on development of strategic plans is highly desirable.

    How to Apply

    The assignment will be conducted between August and September 2017. The deadline for submission of all the sub-county investment plans is 22nd September 2017. The Consultant will be required to indicate how the assignment will be delivered within this time limit.
