    Role Purpose:

  • A key part of the role will focus on programme and administrative support to the RMCPU Director and the SMT.
  • Additionally, this role will offer support in the coordination of various initiatives with and regarding regional and multi country initiatives e.g. support to research, policy, advocacy and learning as well as supporting cross-cutting initiatives.
  • The Intern will learn through research, writing, coordination and communication opportunities.

    Location: East and Southern Africa Regional Office - Nairobi

    Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in social sciences, international relations and/or related fields
    International/ regional experience highly recommended
  • International candidates with right to volunteer/ work in Kenya may apply
  • Experience working with non-government organizations
  • Experience in communications, advocacy and/or research
  • Child Rights and Child Protection focus, especially in Africa
  • Experience in program administration
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to think creatively
  • Highly responsible, self-motivated
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team

    Save the Children Gender & GBV Advisor East Africa Drought Response Jobs in Kenya

    Role Purpose:

  • Save the Children believes that gender inequality and Gender-based Violence (GBV) affects our ability to effectively protect and promote the rights of children.
  • We therefore seek to be gender transformative
    in the way we design and implement programmes and respond to crises.
  • Gender equality has been identified as a priority cross-cutting theme within our 2016-18 strategy and the post holder will drive this work forward.
  • The Gender and GBV Advisor will provide dedicated technical support to systematically mainstream gender and GBV in the East Africa Drought Response: Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya and South Sudan.

    Contract Duration: 1 Year

    Location: East and Southern Africa Regional Office - Nairobi

    Qualifications and Experience Essential

  • Substantial (over 5 years) experience of addressing gender inequality and gender-based violence in multiple contexts;
  • Experience (4 years) of humanitarian contexts including in a range of different emergencies, particularly slow-onset, rapid onset and protracted conflict emergency responses, including remote management/restricted access;
  • Proven record of enabling/facilitating change through influencing, inspiring and mobilising others;
  • Proven record of programme design in a development or humanitarian context;
  • Experience conducting assessments - including gender analysis - and revising monitoring and evaluation tools to capture gender and protection considerations for different sectors;
  • Effective communication skills, written and verbal, and the ability to present arguments clearly and effectively to a wide range of internal and external audiences;
  • Creative, strategic and analytical thinker and experience providing strategic advice and direction in humanitarian contexts;
  • A willingness to travel extensively, in the region of 6 months a year, often at short notice, and occasionally to remote and insecure locations;
  • Fluent written and spoken English;
    Commitment to and understanding of gender equality, child rights, the aims and principles of SC, and humanitarian standards such as the Sphere Charter and the IASC Guidelines.
  • Commitment to comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child safeguarding, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated capacity to deliver on the Core Humanitarian Standards.
