1. School of Pure and Applied Sciences

Department of Mathematics and Computer Science

Appointment to this position is either on permanent and pensionable terms or on a three (3) year renewable
performance-based contract, depending on age, citizenship, or any other reason.

Requirements

Academic Qualifications
Applicants must have:
An earned PhD in Computer Science or its equivalent from an accredited and recognized university.

Experience and Responsibility
Applicants should:
• Be registered with the relevant professional body (where applicable)
• Have evidence of contribution to university/research institution through activities such as participation
in departmental management, students’ academic/research advising, school or university/institutional
meetings, committee membership and related matters.
• Demonstrate community involvement (e.g. Member of BOG, SMC etc.)

Skills
Applicant should demonstrate ability to
• Teach/conduct research and supervise students and/or staff.
• Design and Develop academic programmes and curricula
Publications
  • Applicants must have a minimum of four (4) publication points.

    Key Responsibilities
    Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
    • Teach a minimum of 3 to a maximum of 5 undergraduate and/or graduate units in computer
    science each semester.
    • Conducts research, supervise postgraduate students and publishing research outputs in reputable
    conference proceedings and journals.
    • Attending conferences and workshops for continual professional growth
    • Publishing high quality educational books on topics in computer science
    • Participates in curriculum planning and assessment for the computing programmes.
    • Keeps abreast of current trends in computing and advise the Department on needed curriculum
    changes.
    • Mentoring undergraduate students enrolled in computing programmes.
    • Developing and maintaining relationships with industry contacts to support internship programs,
    project collaborations and industrial mentoring.
    • Setting and achieving goals for programs that support the University's strategic plan, acquires
    necessary resources, and ensures goals are attainable.
    • Engaging in service to the university by taking part in committees and boards as appointed by the
    university leadership.
    • Demonstrates social responsiveness by seeking out volunteer opportunities to serve the
    community both within and outside of the university.
    • Perform any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned or delegated by the Head of
    Department, Dean of Faculty or other Officer of the University in accordance with the University
    statutes.

    3. Lecturer in Environmental Studies (Community Development) Grade 12

    4. Assistant Technician (Electrical) Grade B.1 Post - REF: PU/ADV/4/11/2016

    Job purpose
    The successful candidate will undertake a variety of tasks relating to setting up and maintaining electrical infrastructure, installing electrical wiring in buildings, troubleshooting malfunctions and blackouts and repairing appliances with a goal to maintain well functioning electrical connections to minimize the probability of accidents and maximize usability of electricity/power in all facilities.

    Academic Qualification
    Applicants must have a Diploma or a Higher National Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

    Experience
    Applicants must have:
    • A minimum of five (5) years relevant work experience in industrial and/or commercial electrical systems with proven integrity, independence, innovativeness and compliance to deadlines.
    • proven experience as electricians
    • Demonstrable experience and ability to use electrical and hand tools (e.g. wire strippers,
    voltmeter etc.) and electrical drawings and blueprints.
    • Have experience in handling Medium and Higher Voltage Power termination to Power Control
    Pillars and Mother Boards.
    • Experience in various electrical installations
    • experience in handling different kinds of electrical devices and systems.
    • experience in a supervisory position

    In addition, applicants:
    • Should show Active involvement in International/Continental/Regional /National/
    Local/Community activities.
    • Be registered members of the relevant professional body.

    Skills

    • Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and legal regulations and guidelines

    • Supervisory skills
    Duties and responsibilities will include:
    • Executing plans of electrical wiring for well functioning lighting, intercom and other electrical
    systems
    • Install safety and distribution components (e.g. switches, resistors, circuit-breaker panels etc.)
    • Connect wiring in electrical circuits and networks ensuring compatibility of components
    • Prepare and assemble conduits and connect wiring through them
    • Prevent breakdown of systems by routinely inspecting and replacing old wiring and insulated
    cables, cleaning circuits etc.
    • Perform effective troubleshooting and faulty tracing to identify hazards, defects, or malfunctions in
    electrical systems and appliances by performing periodic inspection and repair or substitute
    damaged units.
    • Following architectural drawings to determine installation of wiring systems
    • Perform a number of duties to ensure proper maintenance and testing of wiring systems
    • Replace faulty wires and parts and ensure that the new ones are in proper working order
    • Inspect electrical systems and components to determine condition and identify needed repairs
    • Ensure that both preventative and general maintenance tasks are carried out
    • Install a variety of electrical system components and apparatus such as lighting, alarms, switches, circuits wires, fuses, conduit layout and Switchboxes and several other electrical components
    • Plan layout of electrical wiring and equipment keeping in mind local building codes and project
    specifications
    • Direct the work of electrical wiremen, artisans to ensure that work orders are handled properly.
    • Installation and maintenance of Single and three Phase Booster Pumps
    • Repair and Maintenance of 3 Phase Auto Start DC Generators
    • Installation, Operation and Maintenance of Solar, Air Condition, and Automated Street Lighting Systems.
