National TB, Leprosy and Lung Disease Program: The National Tuberculosis,

Leprosy and lung Disease Program (NTLD~P), is a program under the Department of Preventive and Promotive Health in the Ministry of Health,
Kenya.

The mandate of NLTP was widened in July 2007 to address critical lung health concerns and ensure alignment of the program to international expectations.

In 2013, following the implementation of the 2010 Constitution, the Ministry of Health carried o u t a restructuring
resulting in change of a name to the National Tuberculosis Leprosy and Lung Disease Unit (NTLD-U), which was later changed in 2014 to the current National Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Lung Disease Program (NTLDP)

  • Vision: To reduce the burden of lung disease in Kenya and render Kenya
    free of Tuberculosis and Leprosy
  • Mission Statement: To sustain and improve Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Lung Disease control gains in order to accelerate the reduction of tuberculosis incidence, achieve leprosy eradication and control lung disease.
  • Core-mandate: To formulate policies, set standards, develop capacity, identify and mobilize resources, ensure uninterrupted supply
    of commodities, provide Technical Assistance, coordinate, monitor and evaluate implementation of TB, Leprosy and Lung disease control activities.
  • Goal: To accelerate the reduction of TB, Leprosy and lung disease burden through provision of people-centered, universally accessible, acceptable and affordable quality services in Kenya

    The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning, execution and management of NTLD-Program communication strategies with a specific focus on creating increased awareness of TB, Leprosy and other lung diseases and the work
    of the NTLD-Program and its partners.

    Duties and responsibilities

    Take lead in media and public relations (PR) for the NTLD-Program to include but not limited to:

  • Maintaining an updated media contact database
  • Coordinating the documentation of TB and other lung diseases control activities through regular media field visits and media events
  • Monitoring, analyzing and documenting media coverage of TB and other
    lung diseases control activities
  • Identifying opportunities to engage the media both proactively and in response to emerging issues relating to the NTLD-Program
  • Identifying opportunities to showcase the work of the NTLD-Program and disseminating information on TB not limited to conferences,
    seminars and media events

  • Take lead in the writing, editing, production and publication of communication materials for the NTLD-Program including press briefing notes, press releases, website and social media platforms
  • Manage and regularly update the NTLD-Program website and social media channels with accurate, appropriate and up-to-date information
  • Provide technical assistance to NTLD-Program in identifying, planning and
    executing effective communication strategies that support TB control activities
  • Provide technical assistance to NTLD-Program in all aspects of media and
    communications, including the development of information, education an communication (IEC) materials, editorial review of presentations and publications
  • Ensure the
    documentation of TB control activities for publication and
    dissemination in multimedia and written form
  • Ensure appropriate application and use of the NTLD-Program communication and branding guidelines.
  • Work closely with the all Program officers to ensure that communication activities are appropriately evaluated for impact.

    Academic and Professional Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism or any related degree
  • Masters’ or post graduate diploma in related field will be an added advantage
  • Five years’ work experience in the planning and management of communication, print and broadcast media or interactive digital media at
    national level

    Skills and abilities

  • Be proficient in using a computer and Microsoft office (especially MS word,
    Excel, Power Point and Publisher)
  • Ability to work well in a team and collaborate well with Ministry of Health
    officers and other partners
  • Excellent knowledge of Desktop publishing applications, social media and
    web content management systems
  • Knowledge of current theories and practices in communication for development, and the role of mass media
  • Ability to analyze, evaluate and synthesize complex technical information and consequently draft ideas and concepts in non-technical written and oral form
  • Specific skills in writing press releases and articles/stories for traditional and electronic media
  • Proven ability to effectively manage relationships with local and international media and other partners
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organization skills
  • Ability to plan, manage and work in high-pressure situations under tight deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (English and Swahili)
